It's not very dangerous. Ski patrollers undergo a lot of training. Safety is paramount in our line of work. Of course, since patrolling involves skiing, every year a few patrolers get injured in skiing and snowboarding accidents, but is comes with the territory.

Yes. Ski wax isn't magic, it's just wax and you can use pretty much any wax, though it it may not work as well. I've used turtle wax on by snowboard many times. I'll generally rub some turtle wax on my board before I snowboard and it works well. I have a snowboard that hasn't been waxed in ten years and I waxed it with turtle wax and it worked great.Before I tutrle waxed it it was totally unridable, ice and snow immediately clung to the board but6 after the turtle was I was able to ride for the rest of the day without trouble. It doesn't work as well as specially formulated wax, but it helps to protect the wax on your board and extend the life of the wax job.

You can ski year -round in the USA if you are willing to hike and "earn your turns." If you are referring to lift-served skiing on groomed trails, Timberline Lodge at Mount Hood, OR provides lift served skiing right up to Labor Day. They close in September, but not because of lack of snow, but rather a lack of skiers. It also give them an opportunity to perform certain maintenance tasks that are usually done in the off-season. Other areas offer late season skiing into early summer. Arapahoe Basin in Colorado has been known to remain open until July 4th, and Mt. Bailey snowcat skiing in Southern Oregon will also remain open until July following winters with deep snow. In the eastern USA, hike-to terrain on Mt. Washington, NH usually permits skiing well into June, and some hardy souls have made turns on ice that has lingered into July. Lift served skiing in the east is sometimes available into early May at Bretton Woods resort in NH. Skiing will soon be available year-round, indoors at the New Jersey Meadowlands Xanadu complex.
