Skunks use scent glands, as a weapon, found on each side of the anus. These glands produce a mixture of sulfur-containing chemicals such as thiols, traditionally called mercaptans. The odor of the fluid is strong enough to ward off bears.

Lions do not live in any of the places where skunks live. If they did, though, they still wouldn't eat skunks. Lions don't typically eat small prey, and if they did attack a skunk, the skunk's spray it would release in self defense would ward off the lion.

HA! It may or may not depending on if the oil got onto the skin. I had my dog sprayed and all I did was put some dish soap on it, let it soak in for about 5 minutes and then brought him into the shower with me and used human shampoo. Worked great! BTW had to use the shampoo twice and he is a black lab in case your wondering the size. Good Luck!

The scent glands may be removed from young skunks by a very simple operation. It should be done when they are very young, about the time they first open their eyes, and the wound will heal in a few days. They may be operated on when as large as small kittens, but it is neither as easy nor as pleasant. Sit on a low box or stool with an old bag on your knees; put the skunk in the sack with only the hind quarters exposed, hold it between your knees, and with a small sharp knife make a ¼ or 3/8th inch incision just over the glands, just cutting through the outer skin. The glands are about the size of a cranberry and are easily located. With a small sharp awl, lift up gently on the glands at the same time pressing down gently on the surrounding tissue with the flat side of the knife and the glands will pop outside of the skin. Now lifting up on the awl, cut the gland through the middle, letting the other half go back to place. The reason you should not remove all of the gland is that it is firmly united to the rectum, but they can never scent if operated on in this way and they do not seem to mind it much.

There are some rodents that have stink glands, but the skunk has the strongest stench and is quite famous for it. As for the chipmunk, they may or may not be one of those specific rodents.

Skunks do not enjoy water. Make sure there is a very recognizable escape route for them to use. (You don't want them going from one room to another) Turn a garden hose on them. Not a forcefully spray. Just alot of cold water falling down on them from above. I did it while hiding behind a piece of cardboard. (They can't spray what they can't see) After they start to leave, keep the water on them. Lots of water, until they are outside. Now, make sure they can never get back in. Yes, I know it's messy. But, it's better than living with skunks.

Skunk cabbage flowers smell much like rotting meat or skunk smell. Other foul smelling flowers are crown imperials and roadkill skunk.

I've actually seen this sold in an aerosol spray can at a store called Spencer's. You can usually find them in malls (at least here in the south, you can.) You could probably find it at a store that sells gag gifts, too.

To get rid of the skunk smell there are many home rememdies dont freak out. First know that the skunks spray is like a oily foam, first put on some distilled vinegar that should help with the smell then use some dish soap like dawn and that should get the oil off of you. Afterwards use regular shampoo or conditioner. The second remedy is to mix 1 quart of hydrogen peroxide, 2 tablespoons of blue dawn dish soap, and a box of baking soda. you put it on all over either by spraying it or sponging it on leave it for about 20 minutes rinse and use regular shampoo. For your clothes soak them in vinegar wash with dawns dish soap, then with laundry detergent then leave out in the sun.
