Can a cpap machine for sleeping disorder give you swollen eyes in the morning?

Often, dry eyes, or puffiness can occur from using a cpap mask. This is usually caused by an improperly sized mask or a mask that did not stay well seated or sealed during your sleep therapy. Usually at the top of the mask by the bridge of your nose, you get a small (sometimes really small) air-leak that will allow air to escape and is angled towards the eye.

The solution is to make sure the seal on the mask is good. If it isn't, it may be time to replace the cushions. This is covered by many insurance companies.

There is an after market product that was designed by a pulmonolgist who specializes in sleep therapy called mask liners. This product works, or it did for me. They are fibrous or cloth like applicator that goes between the cushion seal and the skin on your face it helps to better seal the mask (especially for those of us with facial hair) and helps prevent these blow by leaks.

If your mask was not fitted specifically for you, it may be the wrong size and sometimes an adjustment to a larger or smaller size will solve this problem.

Why can't I get deep sleep?

Exercise often helps here. Ensure that you are exhausting yourself, 20-30 minutes at least once a day, preferably earlier in the day.

What can you mix with a sleeping pill to get knock out?

If it's a prescription sleeping pill, you don't want to mix anything with it. Especially not anything that would make you even more sleepy. It's very possible you would quit breathing. My husband used to take prescription sleeping pills and his doctor always warned how dangerous it was to take more then one or to mix them. Be careful.

Why is REM sleep also called Paradoxical sleep?

Because during a REM stage your brain produces waves with a frequency and amplitude similar to beta waves. Beta waves have short frequencies and low amplitudes. These are the waves that are most common when you are most awake. Basically: you look asleep, but your brain is wide awake. REM sleep is when we remember our dreams, so it makes sense that our brains are most active when we are dreaming, seeing as that dreams require a lot of mental activity.

What in sleeping pills causes the calm you need to fall asleep and what is the average dosage?

Personally I'd recommend a drug called zopiclone at a dose of 3.75mg at bedtime which can be increased to 7.5mg if you find this isn't working. Alternatively, your doctor may think it's more appropriate to prescribe diazepam starting at 2mg at bedtime, however this has the tendency to cause extra groggyness in the mornings. Both of these drugs will "mellow you out" making it easier to drift gently off to sleep ;) Hope this helps.

I get random pains everywhere in my body on the bottom of my feet my arms legs shoulders and chest I am very tired all the time but I can't fall asleep at night what could be causing this?

this comes from your body being stuck in fight or flight mode.

no matter how tired you are, you can't sleep because of this.

and when you lay down, your heart beats faster.

Help this by moving slower, and whenever you do get tired, even if its in the middle of the day, take a nap.

this will help to re-align you sleep schedule and circadian rhythm.

When does REM happen?

REM or (Rapid Eye Movement) happens when your asleep, about every 90 minutes in a human and 30 minutes in a dog or cat after they fall asleep until about when they wake up in the morning. A dream lasts from about 5 - 40 minutes. REM happens about every 90 minutes with each one lasting longer than the previous occurance. REM periods come at times when we are not in a deep sleep. Also as the night goes on sleep gets lighter. Someone is more likely to remember the last dream they had because they are closer to being awake, the longest, and they have occured the most recently. It ussualy occurs four or five times every night. The body is paralyzed, heartbeat increases, and the eyes move very quickly from side to side they also move up and down.

Hope that helps

Does sleeping late waking up early and not eating a heathy breakfast affect your life span?

Yes. Not eating well is going to negatively impact your health and wellbeing. Sleep deprivation isn't as well understood, but chronic deprivation will impact your cognitive performance and decision making abilities- which could lead to a car accident and certainly shorten your lifespan. Some people appear to need less sleep than others, but certainly, depriving yourself of sleep to the point that your performance is sub-par isn't going to be helping your lifespan. Some observational evidence also suggests that those who sleep more than 10 hours a night may also have reduced lifespans- though this could be purely correlational (sick people tend to sleep more and die sooner). Eating well and getting enough sleep are two important steps in ensuring a long and healthy life.

How can a 14-year-old learn to fall asleep at 10 pm when he typically goes to sleep at 11 pm?

The flipside could work in your favor. Simply trying to getting up an hour to an hour-and-a half earlier might help to adjust that internal clock. In the old days this was not hard because chores dictated a natural drowsiness, if ya'no'whatta'mean !! Good luck...BB Force yourself to get up early every day, then turn on plenty of light or go out in the sunlight and exercise. Bright light when you first get up helps your body set it's internal body clock. If you do that you'll have less problem sleeping at 10:00

What time elapses since you take a Myraplex tablet indicated for the Restless Leg Syndrome until it reaches the therapeutic level in the blood stream?

When I take it regularily I never have symptoms. When I skip a dose my leg doesn't bother me for about 12 hours. Once I take the pill I missed, it starts to work in 10-30 minutes.

Do sleep aids actually induce sleep?

In a way, but there are some problems. Most sleep aids contain ingredients that make you drowsy. The problem is that most sleep aids help induce sleep by slowing brain activity, and this interferes with a person's natural sleep rhythms. Often a person using sleep aids will still be tired after having slept all night. Also, most sleep aids can become habit forming, such that you need to continue using them, whether you want to or not. They do have side effects, including making some people feel tense or edgy. On the other hand, some sleep aids, when taken as directed, are good for occasional use, and do help some people fall asleep.
