How many combinations are used with social security numbers?
Social Security Numbers (SSNs) are nine-digits in length. The maximum number of combinations without exclusion is 109, or one billion. However, a number of number combinations are excluded (e.g., 666-xx-xxxx, 000-xx-xxxx, xxx-00-xxxx, xxx-xx-0000, as well as SSNs beginning with most numbers over 733). After excluded combinations are taken into account, the maximum number of combinations is approximately 745 million. According to the Social Security Administration, approximately 442 million SSNs have been assigned, with 5.5 million new numbers assigned each year. At this rate, new numbers can be assigned over the next 52 years (i.e., 2009 through 2061) before reassigning numbers or changing the archetype. No, not legally. However if the prosecutor is able to tie it all together and is able to prove that they all belong to the same person (the defendant) he certainly CAN introduce them.

Can you get a credit check without a social security number?
If you are a corporation, you can apply for a merchant account without a social. The problem with doing this is that there is no guarantee that you will be accepted. Your merchant account provider will need copies of your financial statements dating back 2 years and other information. Seems like a lot of work for 9 digits. The reason a social is the standard when opening a merchant account is because your merchant account is essentially a bank account. You need your social when you open a business bank account to protect the bank against fraud. It works the same with merchant accounts.

Can you legally denounce your social security number?
You can take an ad out in the paper saying "I denounce 123-45-6789!" in bold type and it's perfectly legal.
That's the ONLY way in which the question makes any sense to me.
If you mean that you don't want to participate in the social security system at all, there is one option I know of: move to an Amish community and become Amish. The Amish are permitted to exempt themselves from Social Security taxes on religious grounds, because the Amish community has a very long history of taking care of elderly/infirm and destitute members (who therefore don't collect Social Security benefits either). You've got to really be committed to the belief system and the lifestyle to do this, though, because if you try it as a tax dodge both the US and the Amish will take a very dim view of it.
The other option is to choose not to participate in social security by never applying for benefits. I don't think anyone can make you take social security benefits if you don't want them. You'll still have to pay the FICA taxes though.
