What medications are held before surgery?

Well before surgery (at least 2 weeks), you should discuss this question with your doctor. He/she will go through your list of medication and tell you what to take and what to put on hold. In any case, all medication that increases bleeding, such as aspirine (though more and more surgeons no longer stop this) and marcumar, are stopped 10 days before surgery. Some drugs for diabetes are also put on hold. It also depends on the kind of surgery you are having, and on the reason you are taking the drugs in the first place. You should always discuss this matter with your physician at least 2 weeks before surgery.

The trachea is in the neck and lies in front of your oesophagus (gullet), which food passes down. The trachea is about 10-16cm (5-7in) long and is made up of rings of tough, fibrous tissue (cartilage). You can feel these if you touch the front of your neck.

What does post surgery mean?

Post- op stands for post operative. This is the time immediately after a surgery. A doctor will give instructions for this time that will help the patient to recover from the stress of surgery.

Some patients may be able to rest at home, some in the hospital only. It is up to the doctor.

Another use of the word post op is slang. Sometimes people who have had a sex change are called post op to distinguish them from people who live dressed as a different gender, but who have the same sex organs that they were born with: a post- op.

The Lap-Band is a bariatric procedure used to help overweight and obese individuals to lose weight and eat healthier. Once the Lap-Band surgery is performed on an individual, he/she must follow a specific diet and will need to avoid certain foods. At first, the individual will only be able to consume small amounts of pureed food which will then progress to soft foods. They will also need to drink water. The doctor will inform the patient when they will be able to consume other types of food. Broth, yogurt, and gelatin are all good food choices after the Lap-Band procedure.

What can you use to stop an ongoing period?

I don't think you can stop your cycle. Its a natural thing. However there are ways you can lighten your period, I know that contraceptive (birth control) pills can delay your period for about a month (if its the "morning after pill") or if you're taking regular contraceptive pills then your period won't be as heavy or as long as the normal cycle. You should get a Doctor's opinion and also a prescrption from him/her if you want contraceptive pills as they are not sold over the counter except for "the morning after pill". If you go to the chemist or drug store you can get ONE morning after pill over the counter - Its usually not a problem although some chemists or drug stores ask you to fill in a form with your information and a reason why you want the pill so be prepared if you're going to opt for that. They probably won't sell it to you if you tell them you want to delay or lighten your period, so just say that your reason is you just want to be safe. Same as with your doctor if you want him to fill out a prescrption for contraceptive pills, don't tell him you want to lighten your period, just say you need contraceptive pills.

This is just one way, I'm sure there are other ways to lighten your period but I doubt you can make it stop. All women go through it, its just a few days to a week of discomfort and ocassional pain, I guess you'll get used to it.

How is a annular tear repaired?

The intervertebral disc that sits between two vertebrae contains a highly pressurized center called the nucleus pulposus. This material is held in place by a strong ligamentous material called the annulus fibrosis. As long as the integrity of the annulus is in order, no nuclear material can escape from the nucleus pulposus. However, since the posterior or outer third of the annulus is filled with nerve fiber of the sinu-vertebral nerve, when it comes into contact with nuclear material, a patient feels pain.

An annular disc tear is when the substance of the annulus fibrosus "rips" or "tears," allowing the highly pressurized and nucleus pulposus to escape outward toward the outer third of the disc.

Can you Eat pasta after gastric bypass surgery?

Eating pasta after gastric bypass would be a personal choice and while my doctor let me know that eating egg noodles was acceptable, I've been told by others they were told whole wheat or regular was okay and some were told not to consume it at all.

Bearing all of that in mind, if and when you eat pasta after surgery, you should watch the portion size and probably measure it, using a measuring cup. As well, you should be eating your higher protein foods first, so if you do have chicken or meatballs etc, you should begin eating that first, with the small amount of pasta afterward.

If you start eating larger portions of normal pasta, especially without the addition of any other protein, you're defeating your own purpose of having had the surgery.
