Can you get sick for swimming in a pool with maggots?

The answer here must be yes. Without knowing why maggots would even be in a swimming pool, there should be sufficient disinfectant in the pool water to kill maggots or any other type of invaders. You wouldn't put your body in contact with maggots in any normal situation therefore swimming with maggots is putting your body in contact with the germs that are washed from them into the water. Do not swim in any polluted water is always the safest rule.

How do salt levels in salt pool go up?

If you are adding salt to a salt water pool with a salt water chlorination system and the TDS level does not go up then the problem probably lies with the chlorination system not working (the electrolysis unit or power supply).

Adding salt directly to the pool will increase the TDS (Total Dissolved Salts) concentration of the water.

What is the best way to determine if your pool liner is leaking?

Answer 1:

IF you can get in the pool, brush dirt off bottom and look for anything that looks like a crack or small hole. This is easy to do in the shallow end.IF you see something after you have brushed the bottom or sides, the next step is to get a dye tester from pool store. Squirt the dye into the suspected leak area.Be careful not to actually touch the surface of the pool liner, though.if the dye swirls harmlessly that is not a leak IF the dye seems to go into the spot you are testing that is a leak Do NOT waste money on peel & stick vinyl pool patches if you are patching a liner underwater. They will NOT stick. Use the patches that require glue.

Also advise swimmers NOT to use the pool pole to retrieve items from the bottom. The unprotected end is sharp enough to gouge the liner.I personally would not even take a chance using the pole end that is padded.

If you can't find a leak in the shallow end and can dive to the bottom in the deep end, check that next

A pool pro can pressure test the plumbing to determine if the leak is in the plumbing.

Also check for water loss around any external lines, like the backwash, or heater or the plumbing for the pump.

Answer 2:

In order to tell if the leak is in the structure or the plumbing you want to run an extended leak test. Check the amount of water loss over a period of 24 hours with the pump running the entire time. Then check how much you lose with the pump off for 24 hours. If the leak is in the structure (anything not involving the pipes - liner, light, etc) the rate of loss should be about the same. If the leak is in the suction lines (going from the bottom drain or skimmers to the pump) then you will lose more water when the pump is off. If the leak is in the return lines (going from the filter back to the pool) then the loss will be greater when the pump is running.

How many gallons of water should a swimming pool lose daily?

That all depends on the size of the surface of the pool the amount of people going in and out of the pool etc. To see if a pool is leaking take a bucket of water out of the pool, mark the water level of the pool and the water level in the bucket. Then leave the pool and bucket alone for a day or two. if the water level in the pool has gone down more then the water level in the bucket then there is a leak or water is being removed in some way. If the levels are the same then the water lost is a result evaporation.

Should the floor of a sand bottom pool be smooth?

For aesthetics it usually looks better to have a smooth bottom. In most cases it will not effect the liners fit of function. Upon new installation you may notice some inconsistency in the bottom as it's hard to install without disrupting the sand. Some of this will likely flatten out as the weight of the water acts upon the sand.

What is the largest algae?

Tiny, but when a lot bunch up together it forms a big blanket of algae.

How much copper sulfate would you use in a 30000 gallon pool?

It is best to steer customers away from algaecides that use copper, since copper tends to have bad effects in pool water, i.e. stains on the walls, and cloudiness after chlorine is added etc. Sodium Bromide based algaecides in conjunction with liquid chlorine is usually the cheapest and most efficient method for destroying algae. Just make sure that you don't have a mineral purification system (nature2, pool frog, etc) or the Sodium Bromide (or the copper for that matter) will instantly destroy it. Yes but not straight as it will mark the walls and break down quickly you do need to buffer it (doing this will make it last approx 10 times longer) and adjust its pH to 6.5 and still use small amounts of bromide or Chlorine from time to time. as there are some bacteria that it doesn't control First thing you need to do is make sure your alkalinity is at least 50 ppm for copper sulfate to work properly. My pool used to be totally dark green when I opened it. I now use 2 to 3 table spoons of copper sulfate when I open it in the spring and it goes from green to clean in about 2 days. It may be a little cloudy after this, but it's something you can work with, clarifiers etc. Also back flush often. I also use the same amount in the fall when I close it, but make sure you circulate the water for 2 days before you close it. Make sure you mix the copper sulfate with water in a plastic container, make sure the blue crystals are dissolved. I use a 2 gallon plastic container with a sprinkler head on it like you use to water flowers with, this makes it easy to sprinkle the copper sulfate mixed with water in the pool evenly. You can buy copper sulfate at your local hardware store or on ebay.

P.S. I only use use copper sulfate in the spring and the fall. I do not use it during the season as a chlorine substitute as some people say they do, as to much copper in your water can cause you problems.

How do you clean hair after swimming in salt water pool?

always shampoo and condition hair after swimming, especially when swimming in chlorinated water. if you don't, chlorine can build up on the hair and make it feel horrible. if you swim often, get a good clarifying shampoo and use once a week to prevent build-up. before getting in the pool, wet your hair first with regular water. hair is like a sponge, it soaks up water. if it's already wet, it won't soak up as much chlorine. or, even better, use a leave-in conditioner beforehand. conditioner seals the cuticle of your hair, so very little chlorine can get into the hair shaft. the best thing to do after swimming is to shampoo and condition your hair. deep conditioners always help also.

What to do with the water in the pool cover?

I have found the most effective way to get rid of the water sitting on top of a pool liner, is to purchase a submersible pump at your local hardware store, with enough hose to extend from the pump to where you want the water to drain (yard). AND ensure you have a top quality extension cord so you don't electrocute yourself or others if the connection goes under water. Just push the submersible pump to the deepest part of the water on top of the cover, plug it in, and it will drain a large part of it away before you even start removing the cover for the summer. Or you could filter the water after treating it with chemicals and pump it under the cover so you don't have to wait for rain or buy water to top off the pool. It does't have to be perfectly clear because you will treat all the water when you take the cover off.

What is the difference between spring board and platform diving boards?

What chemicals do you use in a swimming pool?

Causes of hair color changesAlthough there are a few chemicals which can contribute to causing hair to change color it is usually unbalance water which is the primary source.

The color can help us indicate what type of metal it is from. Example: Green hair is usually caused by copper being dissolved in the water. It precipitates out and stains the hair when we shower using a shampoo that is high in pH.

Your water should be tested for the following items:

pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, total dissolved solids, copper & iron.

What color is the stained hair?

To rid the stain from the hair find a shampoo that is known to be swimmers shampoo or one that is low in pH. Use often and it will dissolve the metals back into the water and rinse away down the drain. Use moisturizer to keep the hair soft and moist as you will probably wash the hair several times a day which will have a tendency to dry the hair.

We used this process with my daughter several years ago when she came home from a vacation and showered.. We heard the screams all through the house when she looked in the mirror to find a lot of green hair. We had it almost all gone within three days (just in time for to go to camp).

How do I change the light in above ground swimming pool?

Installing underwater swimming pool lights need not be an expensive or time- consuming task. Many nonconstruction underwater swimming pool lights (battery - oprated and hangifng cord- style) take only momenrs to install .Enjoy your pool from a new perspective

Buy suction cup-style battery-operated or hanging cord-style pool lights. When pricing and comparing lights, remember that suction cup-style battery-operated underwater swimming pool lights have a shorter lifespan than corded ones. Cord-style lights for easy, nonconstruction application vary with the type of above-ground pool wall (hard or soft).

Step 2

Install your batteries. If you're using suction cup-style battery-operated underwater swimming pool lights, set your light cycle by pressing the light's face, and then affix the light to the pool wall or bottom surface. Remember to manually turn off your lights when not using them. Go to Step 3 if using a hard-walled light; skip to Step 6 if using a soft-sided model.

Step 3

Place your light, if you're using a hard-walled corded model, in a bucket of water to verify its seal is watertight. Use hard-wall corded models only on flat aluminum, steel or plastic resin pools.

Step 4

Turn off your pool's pump, unless your light's instructions state otherwise, and mount your light's transformer on a surface near an outlet away from the pool. Plug in the transformer and run light tests to be sure the light works correctly.

Step 5

Remove the section of your pool's ledge where you wish to install the light. Hang the light on the ledge, affix it, hide the wiring as directed by the light's installation manual and then replace the ledge.

Step 6

Test the watertightness of a soft-sided corded-style underwater swimming pool light by placing it in a bucket of water. Once you have verified the seal, follow the directions in Step 4 for hard-sided corded lights. After verifying the light works correctly, hang the light over the pool rail and tighten it to the rail as directed by the light's installation manual.

What can kill mosquito larva?

There are fish that eat these little bugs. If you have a pond and need to have these pests gone these fish can do it for you. Killing these is easy if you can dump the standing water they live in. They need the water to live and grow.

What do you use to clean the salt line off pool tiles in a saltwater pool?

If it is "salt" it would dissolve with water. More often it is alkali or calcium that has deposited at the water line. If you catch it when it is just a "film" it will usually come off with an acid product. I prefer to use Bio Dex 300 but there are others on the market. Be extremely careful when working with acid as you could get hurt. If the buildup has worsened you may want to use a pumice block to remove the hard crusty parts. Once it has built up beyond that it is almost impossible to remove. Consult a professional as some older methods may damage the tile.

A competition swimming pool is 50 meters long 26 meters wide 3 meters deep how much water does the pool hold?

A swimming pool that measures 50m by 30m has a perimeter of 160 meters. With sides an average of 3m deep, the total area of all four sides is 480 square meters. The bottom has an area od 1500 square meters (50 x 30), giving a total area of 1980 square meters (480 + 1500).

What are the most common pool pests in Florida?

I live in North Central Florida. The most common pest in my pool is the predacious diving beetle. These little bast- ... buggers will actively chase you down and take a bite. It hurts but I don't think they're venomous. I read they can get up to an inch long but I've never seen one longer than a 1/4 inch. I spend the first 5 or 10 minutes in the pool searching for these beetles then scooping them up in the net and crushing them on the side of the pool.

I also frequently have backswimmer beetles in the pool as well but these generaly leave me alone unless I try to catch them. I caught one by hand once and he bit me hard. They have a long tube of a mouth they use to suck blood from their prey and he pierced my finger. I don't catch them by hand anymore. I just scoop them out with the net and send them on their way.

It is rare but not unheard of to find an alligator in your pool so always give a quick check before jumping in.

What is the average lifespan of a gunite pool?

How long will the shell of a gunite pool last?

There are lots of pools made with gunite or shotcrete that are 50+ years old. As there are many inground pools of all types built in the 1970's still full of family fun times. With first finishes, and equipment 30 years old. I often for example see old heaters still working that were built in the early 1970's. Sure there are much more efficent units today.

Who would think of taking that 1963 Chevy for a spin to work everyday,or even with the family on vacation? A great show piece but no safety glass, no airbags, 8 mpg, drum brakes,no crumple zones and plenty of emmissions, without headrests, and only a lapbelt to keep safe.

Pools can be refinished just like any other item of your home. Your finish, underground plumbing, and other parts of your pool are going to last longer today then days of old, simply because many products are built better. A good example are the additives of todays Concrete being one of them.

Your preventitive maintenance is going to play a big part of how long something is going to last as you well know, as is the quality of the product, what your willing to pay for quality will have an effect. Look far past the price as usual.

Ask your pool professional he can show you many new high quality swimming pool products, along with energy efficent equipment and meet a varity of budgets.

Here is an interesting example of high tech pool equipment, did you know there is now a new pump for your residential pool, that is so energy efficent compared to past available models it will save owners in high cost electric areas like the west coast $100.00 or more per month guaranteed from the largest mfgr in the industry.

You can't still buy that new 1963 Chevy, but you can still buy a new pool heater for example built exactly the same as it was in 1963 and that's a real fact. You saved up front and the family will be disappointed when they have to swim in their long underware cause you cant afford the heat tab.

See your pro pool dealer for the good stuff.

How can you smooth out the finish on a plaster pool?

If your pool has a marcite finish, it is quite simple. Not easy, but simple. It can be completely polished with a diamond pad and a hydrotorque machine. A service like this should cost you around $600. It depends on the size of your pool. This procedure will make your surface feels glassy, extremely smooth.

Will normal chlorine levels in a swimming pool damage copper piping in a pool heater?

Low pH causes more damage than chlorine on copper plumbing.

Nonetheless, high chlorine levels, sulfur compounds, metal scavengers and the high salt levels from the spent chemicals are all erosive to copper piping. Flow velocity is also a key factor in determining the rate of erosion. At 7gpm expect no more than 10 years life for 1" type K (very heavy) copper, 5 years or less for type M (typical low budget) copper. Copper pipe is not recommended for pool plumbing. Cupronickel alloys that do not contan zinc or tin are corrosion resistant in pool water, as are 300 and 400 series stainless steels, some more so than others.
