Can puppies die from ticks?

I think so, ticks can carry Lyme disease, rocky mountain spotted fever, and a few other real nasty things but I don't know how this would affect a dog but if you remove the tick, which should only be done with tweezers by grasping the head of the tick and nothing else, put it in a plastic bag with the date of removal then store it in a freezer until you can take it to the vet or doctor to verify if the tick is infected then decide the treatment for the animal. These are the procedures for people as well only don't take them to a vet.

If it has eight legs, that makes your creature a spider not an insect. (Or a lobster or crab, but I am assuming you are not speaking of shellfish.)

Beyond that, more detail is needed regarding:

* size of spider (measurement and proportion of body, legs) * location (country/state, and specify basement, flower garden, etc) * behavior (movement, feeding, speed) * web (if any) * markings

Will lye kill fleas in yard?

Yes, it will. It will also kill all the desirable (necessary for a good yard) other critters and easily kill the yard itself besides contaminating the water supply.

Far better to use a treatment that targets only the pests, available at virtually any store carrying yard products.

Don't use lye, broadly distributed, for this purpose.

What is a Natural way to kill ticks on a dog?

Some suggest garlic. I don't like garlic because it's in the onion family and causes anemia in dogs. I've had great results with a topical all-natural treatment of essential oils that's cut with almond oil (which is a great emollient in itself). I just spray the solution on a bandanna, rub the bandanna on my dog to distribute the scent and then sometimes tie the bandanna around my dog. I get the solution from Goodness Gracious. It's called K#9 Cologne. A four ounce bottle should last all summer for a small dog.

You have the right idea with the garlic but there needs some more direction to it. Garlic alone will help but won't eliminate the problem. I personally have 3 dogs. 2 large and 1 medium. With the following recipe I have not put any flea or tick deterrent on them for three years now.

Recipe

3 cups dry rice

2 Tbls Garlic Powder

1 Tbls salt

1 Tbsp cooking oil

Put the oil in the bottom of a rice cooker or 2 qt pan. Put in rice, garlic powder, and salt and add water to cover approximately 1/2 in. Should be 4 1/2 cups or so. Let cook in rice cooker until it shuts off or in a pan on the stove approximate 20 minutes at a slow boil.

Put usual dry dog food in dish, for small dogs 1/4 cup of this mixture, medium dogs 1/2 cup, large dogs 3/4 cup and really big dogs 1 cup of the rice mixture. Mix well with the dogfood.

I also add 1 or 2 Tablespoons of canned dog food to the dry food to add flavoring. But dogs like the rice anyway so it's not really an issue to get them to eat it. Don't put more garlic in thinking it will help more. That makes it bitter and they won't eat it. You want to put more flavoring, put a beef or chicken bullion cube or broth instead of water in the rice while it's cooking.

It will take a couple of weeks to get this in the dogs system so you should use a good deterrent for the first month after you start this recipe. After that you should be fine unless there is an enormous flea and tick population in your yard. Then only 50% wettable Sevin sprayed on the yard will help the problem. And your kids are probably getting flea and tick bit too if this is the case. Keep animals and kids off of the yard after spraying for at least 24 hours.

How do you get a tick off a cat?

hold your cat down then find the tick and try not to get any fur because it might hurt your cat put your finger on the tick (you can wear gloves) and just turn/roll (not twist) it in one direction until it comes out. If you don't understand what I'm saying you can also use this method although I don't recommend it because it hurts your cat much more. Use some sticky duct tape to pull it off since when you squeeze the tick it releases poison to your cat. Both methods work on humans and dogs.

hope this was helpful! :)

How do you get rid of ticks on humans?

How to remove ticks:Being careful not to squash the tick, grasp it by the head with fine-tipped curved forceps and slowly pull straight out. How not to remove ticks:Don't remove the tick with your fingers.

In many areas of the country the tick is likely to be carrying Lyme disease or other pathogens that can harm humans.

Don't squash the tick.

The spirochete that causes Lyme disease hibernates in the tick's intestine, sometimes for years, waiting for a signal that a new host is available. This signal, an influx of fresh blood, triggers an enormous increase in the spirochete population. After filling the intestine, spirochetes move to the salivary glands and enter the their new host along with anticoagulants and anesthetics produced by the tick. Squashing the tick spreads spirochetes everywhere.

Don't try to burn the tick or smother it with Vaseline etc..

Once that tick is firmly fastened in place, it takes time for the tick to detach itself and depart. No matter how badly the tick may wish to leave quickly, it simply can't. A burning cigarette may kill the tick but won't make it fall off. Ticks can live without air for a long time, so attempts to smother it allow disease transmission to continue for several hours. Anything that upsets or harms the tick without removing it can theoretically cause the tick to regurgitate its stomach contents back into the host, increasing the likelihood of disease transmission.

Don't twist the tick out.

Ticks aren't threaded. Your best chance of removing the head is pulling straight out with steady traction. Twisting invariably leaves the head behind. Because people who twist ticks don't feel the head break off they think it has been removed.
