What is the biggest tire you can fit on a stock 06 Tacoma 4-cylinder prerunner without a lift?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Changing the tire size on this vehicle will adversely effect the handling, speedometer, and fuel economy. The computer on this vehicle cannot be reprogrammed for a larger tire. The OEM tire size is 245/75-16. You could go up to a 255/75-16 without having much effect on handling or performance, but the speedometer would be off around 5 mph. The vehicle will accommodate a very large tire as it is set up like a 4WD, but I do not recommend it.

What is the value of keys from the USS Tacoma?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I had a great uncle serve on the Tacoma. Out of curiosity what name is on the keys? My grandfather had a tattoo that said USS Tacoma. He was born in 1898. Name George Parks. This was probably the cruiser USS Tacoma (CL-20), guessing that he served in his early twenties

The Tacoma was a gunboat and existed in several forms. I decommissioned the USS Tacoma PG-92 in 1981. (Aggie80)

The keys are a nice memento, probably not of great value, more historical than anything else.

What does it mean when the brake indicator on the dash of your 2000 Chrysler Voyager lights up?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

First thing I would do is top off the brake fluid. As your brake pads wear down, the system requires more brake fluid to maintain pressure to apply the brakes - and the lack of pressure could make the light go on. You will also find after adding fluid that you don't have to press the pedal as hard to make the car stop. If your brakes are making any chirping or squeaking or (worst) metal-on-metal noises, get to a brake shop and get the pads replaced.

How do you remove rear brake drums on a 2006 Toyota Tacoma?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Use a 2 or 3 lb sledge hammer. With the wheel off, hit the drum about three inches from its outside; rotating around the drum with each hit. You should see the drum slightly separate from the axle hub (the thing on the other side of the drum w/ studs sticking through the drum) with each blow. Note: Do not hit the drum into tomorrow, only cock back about a foot or two with each swing... start soft, hitting harder until you see it move. Once the drum is about 1/4" from its original position, if its still stuck (after its loose from the axle hub) you may need to loosen the star wheel inside the drum to allow the overall circumference of the shoes to shrink (look for an oval opening on the back/bottom of the backing plate, its in there. You can also try prying a little only after loosening the drum with the hammer too. Your rear brakes on your Toy, with normal use, should last over 100,000 miles.

How do you replace the cabin air filter for a 2005 Toyota 4Runner?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It is behind the glove box. Just open glove box disconnect the little piston rod on the right side then squeeze in the side supports so the glove box will open way down. The cabin filter it right behind the glove box. You will see a snap on door that covers the filter. Pull it off and slide out the filter.

Where is the compass and thermometer fuse located in a 2006 Tacoma?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There isn't a separate fuse for the display; it is fused along with the instrument cluster. So, if your instrument panel is still lit, the fuse for the overhead display is fine. Chances are you have a resistor failure on the display board.

The accessory meter (this is what Toyota calls the ambient temp / compass display) can be removed:

1.) Remove the screw inside the sunglasses compartment. (1 Philips head screw)

2.) Disengage the 2 clips and 3 plastic claws. The locking claws are on the screw end of the console, so you must to gently pull down on the end closest to the windshield where the two clips are. Be careful, it can 'pop' out suddenly. Go slow and make sure you don't yank out the wiring.

3.) Disconnect the accessory meter connector and map lamp connector.

Next, remove the 3 T10 size torx screws that hold the display screen (accessory meter) in.

On the circuit board, there are two surface mount resistors labeled "510". What this means is 51 ohm, as the '0' is the multiplier value.

These two resistors have too much current running through them, so they tend to overheat and the solder pads crack and break over time. This is a known design flaw, and exists in other makes / models of vehicles with this type of display.

Many people are resoldering these as a temporary fix...note that due to oxidation of the resistors the solder won't reflow properly so the repair generally won't last long.

Simply 'rubbing' the resistors to temporarily fix this issue is not a good idea. You will be pulling the unit down and repairing it immediately.

See this guide link below (under 'Sources and Related Links') for a correct do-it-yourself repair, or use a search engine to find a service to professionally repair your display. Repairs and sometimes replacement modules can be found on large auction sites (note that replacement displays will sometimes have the same issue) If your vehicle is under warranty, take it to a dealership and don't attempt any repairs yourself.

What causes a loud popping noise-wobble feeling from wheel when going forward and reverse on sharp turns on a 1993 jeep grand Cherokee 5.2 V8 quadra trak 4X4 comes and goes?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The CV Joints are shot and need replacing. You may also have what I have - failure of the viscous coupler in the quadra-trac transfer case. My '98 jeep would have a lot of tension/binding when making tight turns like u-turns or 90 degrees turns to park etc. This is a sign of the front and rear differentials being 'locked' together via the transfer case. This is a common failing to the quadra-trac transfer case. Check jeep forums for more info. One potentially better solution than to replace it with the same failure prone product is to revert to a selec-trac transfer case. Have to make sure you get the right thing to bolt it up correctly. This gives you selectable full-time 4WD (like quadra-trac 4WD High), 2WD drive, part-time 4WD high/low, and neutral. Note 'part-time 4WD' is misleading. In part-time the front and rear differentials are locked together and it is only for use on loose surfaces (i.e offroad) which is typical only used part-time.
