Is the movie Troy real?

No. The Battle of Troy was not Fiction. There really was a Battle of Troy. The City of Troy was really destroyed. Archaeologists have discovered its ruins. Now, we have no idea how much of the story of the battle as retold in the Iliad and Odyssey was fiction. We do not know if the walls were breached by using a wooden horse or some other means. We do not know if the battle took 10 years. All we know for sure is that the city of Troy was destroyed by warfare.

When did Ancient greek start?

A myth is a story about how things came to be. calling a story "a myth" doesn't mean it's not true, just that it's some nation's interpretation of how everything around us showed up. So myths are primarily an explanation of the origins of the world.

And then the characters in the story took on a life of their own: the gods has good and bad qualities, just like humans, and they desired things, and hated others. Something as ugly and yet as interesting as a spider had to have a good explanation -- a beautiful maiden, who had the gift to weave, and made Athena jealous. Or twin births -- perhaps one of the children was human, while the other was that of the notorious womaniser Zeus.

And maybe later on (but this is pure seculation on my part, I haven't studied this area), authorities would use these myths to gain more power and make people obey because of fear (like the Roman emperors, starting with Augustus, who claimed to be gods themselves).

How the Greek defeated troy?

Odysseus came up with the following plan:

the Greeks were to build a huge hollow wooden horse, fill it with warriors

and leave it before the gates of Troy. Then they had to pretend

to leave for home, but sail back in the night and be let in by the warriors

from the horse and finally destroy the city, putting an end to the war.

The plan, as is well known, worked perfectly.

Why were Heinrich and Sophia Schliemann important to history?

Prior to the archaeological investigations performed by Schliemann, it was generally believed by scholars that the story of the Trojan War, as described by Homer, was entirely mythical, and that there had never been a city called Troy, or a war fought against Troy by other Greek cities. As it turns out, the Trojan War turned out to be real, although it is still true that Homer's description of it is highly embellished with elements of fantasy.

Why were the Greeks so interested in getting to troy what was the purpose?

Whether or not they actually beseiged Troy for a decade is a matter of some debate. That said, Troy was the only other major power left in the region after the decline of the Minoans. Conquering Troy would give the Myceneans (the dominant power in Greece at the time) a solid foothold on the entire region.

In fact, it's probably that event that solidified Greece enough to become the seed for Western Civilization as we know it. Additionally, it's widely accepted that the Trojan refugees traveled across the sea to the Italian peninsula and merged with the Latin and Estruscan people, planting the seeds for Rome.

How did the war in troy start?

In Greek legend, the Trojan War began when Paris, prince of Troy, stole away helen, wife of King Menelaus of Sparta. In Greek history, well, the Trojan war antedates written history, so the legend is our only guide. certainly there was a war; certainly Troy was destroyed. but for a woman? real life is rarely so romantic. The fact is almost certainly that Troy was positioned where its forces could restrict access for traders to the Black sea, and the Greeks wanted that access.

What did Diomedes steal from Troy and why?

I am unfamiliar with Diomedes "stealing" any of Priam's daughters, but it was not unusual for a conquering army to take slaves back to their home cities. Women and female children from the ruling family would have been very valuable.

What did Hector of Troy die of?

He was impaled with a spear then a sword by Achilles, who proceded to drag him around on his chariot.

hector was actually only killed by Achilles' spear in the Iliad. Achilles would have actually had a much harder time in killing hector had pallas athene not come to Achilles' aid and returned his spear that he had just thrown at Hector, he did miss, Hector threw his spear and hit Achilles's shield but because it was made by Hephaustus, the god, it did not break through. Athene also brushed Hector's spear away from Achilles' on a previous encounter in the iliad. Athene saves Achilles from Hector and then Apollo saves hector.

Whilst it is true to say that overall Achilles' is the better warrior, he is not massively better than Hector. If you are to study the Iliad as i have done. you will learn from Achilles himself that, in events before the Iliad, Hector stood up to him alone and they fought a duel in which neither could kill the other. Again we learn from the Greeks when hector challenges them to a duel that they all fear him including Achilles. not one of the Greeks dares stand up to him until they are rebuked by menelaus and a greek elder.

but to really understand the greatest of hector we must see him outside of war, he is a reluctant soldier but defends Ilium because it is his duty, he is a loving father and caring father, he does not fight for his own glory or honour but for his men and those he loves. all other heroes in the iliad fight for themselves and their glory. they are often selfish and brutal. Achilles is the best example of this.

Why did Greece fight Troy in 1200BC?

It is said that Paris of Troy "stole" Helen of Sparta. Paris fell in love with Helen and sneaked her on a Trojan ship. He also said that the goddess Aphrodite promised Helen to him. They wanted to bring Helen back to Greece.

Other reasons are that they wanted to sack Troy for its good location and for spoils of war, and to regain the pride of Menelaus, after Paris dishonored him by taking Helen even though he was a guest in the household.
