Why were the Greeks so interested in getting to troy what was the purpose?
Whether or not they actually beseiged Troy for a decade is a matter of some debate. That said, Troy was the only other major power left in the region after the decline of the Minoans. Conquering Troy would give the Myceneans (the dominant power in Greece at the time) a solid foothold on the entire region.
In fact, it's probably that event that solidified Greece enough to become the seed for Western Civilization as we know it. Additionally, it's widely accepted that the Trojan refugees traveled across the sea to the Italian peninsula and merged with the Latin and Estruscan people, planting the seeds for Rome.
How did the war in troy start?
In Greek legend, the Trojan War began when Paris, prince of Troy, stole away helen, wife of King Menelaus of Sparta. In Greek history, well, the Trojan war antedates written history, so the legend is our only guide. certainly there was a war; certainly Troy was destroyed. but for a woman? real life is rarely so romantic. The fact is almost certainly that Troy was positioned where its forces could restrict access for traders to the Black sea, and the Greeks wanted that access.
What did Diomedes steal from Troy and why?
I am unfamiliar with Diomedes "stealing" any of Priam's daughters, but it was not unusual for a conquering army to take slaves back to their home cities. Women and female children from the ruling family would have been very valuable.
What did Hector of Troy die of?
He was impaled with a spear then a sword by Achilles, who proceded to drag him around on his chariot.
hector was actually only killed by Achilles' spear in the Iliad. Achilles would have actually had a much harder time in killing hector had pallas athene not come to Achilles' aid and returned his spear that he had just thrown at Hector, he did miss, Hector threw his spear and hit Achilles's shield but because it was made by Hephaustus, the god, it did not break through. Athene also brushed Hector's spear away from Achilles' on a previous encounter in the iliad. Athene saves Achilles from Hector and then Apollo saves hector.
Whilst it is true to say that overall Achilles' is the better warrior, he is not massively better than Hector. If you are to study the Iliad as i have done. you will learn from Achilles himself that, in events before the Iliad, Hector stood up to him alone and they fought a duel in which neither could kill the other. Again we learn from the Greeks when hector challenges them to a duel that they all fear him including Achilles. not one of the Greeks dares stand up to him until they are rebuked by menelaus and a greek elder.
but to really understand the greatest of hector we must see him outside of war, he is a reluctant soldier but defends Ilium because it is his duty, he is a loving father and caring father, he does not fight for his own glory or honour but for his men and those he loves. all other heroes in the iliad fight for themselves and their glory. they are often selfish and brutal. Achilles is the best example of this.
Why did Greece fight Troy in 1200BC?
It is said that Paris of Troy "stole" Helen of Sparta. Paris fell in love with Helen and sneaked her on a Trojan ship. He also said that the goddess Aphrodite promised Helen to him. They wanted to bring Helen back to Greece.
Other reasons are that they wanted to sack Troy for its good location and for spoils of war, and to regain the pride of Menelaus, after Paris dishonored him by taking Helen even though he was a guest in the household.

I'm unsure of who Charitomene is as of now, but Andromache is wife of Hector and mother of Astynax.

Troy is a city which existed over 4.000 years and known as the center of ancient civilizations. For many years people believed that it was the city mentioned only in the tales and never existed until it was first found in the 19th century. Troy (Truva inTurkish) is located in Hisarlik near Canakkaleprovince where the remains of this once-great city can be visited. What was left are the remains of the destruction of Schliemann, the famous German archaeologist or a treasure hunter as some people call him. Today, an international team of German and American archaeologists bring the Troy of the Bronze Age back to life under a sponsored project by Daimler - Benz, and another Turkish team is at law wars with Russia and Germany to get back the stolen Trojan treasures.
Troy appeared in Greek and Latin literature. Homerfirst mentioned story of Troy in Iliad and Odyssey. Later, it became the most popular subject in Greek drama. The book of Virgil's Aeneid contains the best known account of the sack of Troy. In addition, there are untrue stories under the names of Dictys Cretensis and Dares Phrygius.
In the Bronze age, Troy had a great power because of its strategic location between Europe and Asia. In the 3rd and 2nd millennia BC Troy was a cultural center. After the Trojan War, the city was abandoned from 1100 to 700 BC. About 700 BC Greek settlers began to occupy the Troas region, Troy was resettled and named as Ilion. Alexander the Greatruled the area around the 4th century BC. AfterRomans captured Troy in 85 BC, it was restored partially by Roman general Sulla and named as New Ilium. During theByzantine rule, Troy lost its importance.
The ruins of Troy were first found by Charles McLaren in 1822. The German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann excavated Troy from 1870 to 1890. His theft of treasure from Troy and his damage to the site will be always remembered in Turkish archaeological history. Wilhelm Dorpfeld followed to excavate Troy after Schliemann. Today, a new German team is still working to rebuild Troy ruins by using new advanced technologies since 1988. There are nine levels at Troy; Troy I to V relates roughly with early Bronze Age (3000 to 1900 BC). Its inhabitants were known as Trojans in this period. Troy VI and VII were built in the Middle and Late Bronze Age. Troy VIII to IX belongs to Hellenistic andRoman Ilion (Latin Ilium). Troy was destroyed many times and rebuilt each time.

It was not made in the Iliad.
The wooden horse (now known as the Trojan horse) was made after the events of the Iliad, in order to fool the Trojans into letting Greek troops into their city, unbeknownst to the Trojans. These Greek soldiers would then open the gates to the city, letting in the awaiting Greek army.
