The birthdate of the US Army is 14 June 1775.
The birthdate of the US Navy is 13 October 1775, and it was disbanded in 1790, then re-established in 1797.
The US Army is the oldest, and most continuous branch of the United States military (much to the dismay of the other three branches).
A Sergeant is higher than a Corporal in any service, police or military, US or foreign.
Probably not during your current tour of duty. It may be possible after you complete your current obligation. Talk to a National Guard recruiter for details related to your specific situation.
On the lighter side (given with respect, admiration, and no small amount of good humor):
the french gave us a navy. and one officer trained a lot of our soldiers.
No. You will not be accepted due to the Army Physical Fitness Test requirements. You must be able to run 2 miles. The time required to do so depends on whether you are Male or Female and your age.
the only one i can think of right now is they were fighting on their home land
As someone from, and still living, in Ohio I was atending the University of Akron at the time. Everything that has been published since then states it was not the war protest that led to the shooting of the students. It was the push by the Kent police of rowdy bar patrons onto the KSU campus, and the riot that occurred , that was the cause of the national guard being there and the shootings. Actually, some of the guardsmen were KSU and UA students. I knew one who was there.
The shootings occurred during class changes and many of the people were students trying to get from one class to another. My cousin was on the KSU campus that day and would have been in the middle of the shootings but for the fact she stopped to talk to her teacher after class.
How long your training in the National Guard depends on what your MOS (your job) is. The least technical jobs are shorter in length, while the more technical jobs are generally greater in length. If you want an estimate, you can expect training to be a minimum of 13 weeks, with some of the longer training to be over a year. Again, it all depends on how technical your MOS is.
On May 4, 1970, four students were killed and nine wounded by National Guard troops at Kent State University in Ohio. The students were protesting the invasion of Cambodia, announced by Richard Nixon the week before. Kent State University
No. They carry weapons for defensive purposes only.
AnswerNot only no but NO NO NO NO!!!!! If you are a medic, you are not a combatant under the Geniva Conventions, and are treated differently because you are charged with the medical care of the other POW's. Carry/use an offensive weapon, you are the same classification as the rest of the prisoners. AnswerWhile the second answer above is technically correct, the shift in current combat is to have medics carry weapons, and essentially consider "medic" as just another specialty for the combat infantryman. This is primarily due to the way modern warfare is fought, which tends to be between an organized military and an irregular (guerrilla/insurgent/etc.) force. Guerrilla forces are notorious for not adhering to the Geneva Conventions, so leaving your medic to be at the mercy of folks who don't recognize that person's protected status is unwise. So, sadly, medics now carry weapons. And, thus, they get treated as standard infantrymen.See website: US National Guard. Note: Even though the National Guard is a STATE military, it is still governed by the US Federal Government. The commander in chief for the state National Guard is their respective state Governor, but if the Governor violates Federal Law, then the Guard can be activated (mobilized) as a Federal US Army unit. This prevents one state from going to war with another state; for example Arizona doing battle with California; or Texas going to war with Oklahoma. During the 1930's the governor of Arizona was going to use his Arizona Army (National Guard) to commence war against the US Government over water rights (a dam construction project). If that would have occurred, the US would simply activate the Arizona Army Guard, thus making them a regular US Army unit. Governor Wallace used his Alabama Army (National Guard) to enforce Alabama segregation laws in the 1960's; the US government activated his Alabama Guard, making them a US Army unit, and reversed Governor Wallace's orders.
1636 it was the first military branch in the U.S.A.
While it is true that the Guard in a sense have been around since the first pilgrims landed. Colonists had to have volunteers guard the citizenry against hostiles and wild animals and the like. Our country has had a proud history of volunteer soldiers dating back to (as the first writer states) 1636. In 1776 during the revolutinary war, the states were given power to appoint officers and train militia. In 1825 the New Yourk militia named themselves the "National Guard" after Lafayette's unit that he called "Garde Nationale." However, in all reality the Guard as we know it was first intitiutionalized by the "Militia Act of 1903", thus creating the modern day National Guard which had to meet certain criteria to qualify for federal funding.
The military does not pay by job title but by rank and years of service. Bonuses are added to hazardous duty jobs or by enlistment packages.
Depends there are two national guard units the Army National Guard under overall authority of the U.S. Army and the Air National Guard under overall supervision of the U.S. Air Force
There is the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard.
The N.G. is larger than the reserves so naturally it is the N.G.
Also called a frequency guard band, a narrow frequency band between adjacent channels in multiplexing that is kept unused to prevent the channels from overlapping and causing crosstalk among modulated signals. Guard bands are commonly used in FDM but are also used in any data transmission method that relies on frequencies.
There are a lot of variables here. You may only spend your two weeks of Annual Training away from your family each year, or you may end up being activated and deployed. It all depends on several factors, such as your unit, your MOS, etc.
Absolutely. You may however have to change your MOS that serves the Air Guards needs.
You would get that from the national guard. If you get a fake National Guard ID that would be a crime. So you need to be a member of the national guard and get it from them. Contact their Public Affairs Office: 208-272-5232
The Hispanic nation that was apparently the first to abolish the Army was Costa Rica. In 1949, the government began forbidding the country from having a standing Army.
