When there is a egg in vinegar will the vinegar volume go up or down?
Upon immersion, the carbonates in the egg shell will react with the acid in the vinegar in the reaction: acid + carbonate = carbon dioxide + water + salt. Thus the volume of vinegar will go down.
No, I just bought a gallon of regular white vinegar and it cost $3.19. If you get into other types of vinegar like red wine vinegar, it could be a little pricey.

We could, but we won't. Students don't learn anything if someone else writes their papers for them, and we want students to learn all they can in school.

Can vinegar be used to flush a radiator?
I want to try it myself on an old truck, there is no reason it would not work, the only thing to watch for is large pieces of calcium scale breaking off and lodging into the radiator passages. my plan is to drain the system and add 1 small bottle of CLR then vinegar to fill it the rest of the way up, run the engine with the heater on max until the engine gets to full operating temp then shut it off --*and let the vehicle just sit overnight with the mixture in the block then in the morning(don't do this step, see note at bottom)*-- start the vehicle again and get the it back up to temp then shutdown, cooloff and undo the bottom radiator hose and drain out the garbage. Rinse out the rad with a garden hose then put the bottom cooling hose back on, fill the system with plain water, run the engine again then shutdown and disconnect the bottom hose again to let the rinse water out. Now reconnect the bottom hose and refill with a 50/50 mix of distilled water and antifreeze (or just buy the premix stuff). The system should be squeaky clean.
Note- I am planning on performing this on an OLDER vehicle that is off manufacturers warranty (rusty 1986 f-150), if your vehicle is still under warranty ask you dealership what the best plan of action is.
UPDATE!!!- After some internet searching I have found that the vinegar will work but you do not want to let it soak overnight. Just put the vinegar and CLR in the rad and go for a long drive. Don't leave the mixture in the engine for any longer than 2 hours but give it at least 1 hour for it to break down the crud.
