Vlad III the Impaler

Vlad III of Wallachia (more commonly known as "Vlad the Impaler" or "Vlad III Dracula") was the Prince of Wallachia who reigned from 1456 to 1462. Historically, Vlad III is most famous for resisting the expansion of the Ottoman Empire and for his unusually sadistic forms of punishment, impaling with a wooden stake through the abdomen as the most highlighted method. He is also believed to have inspired the name for Count Dracula in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

this question can be blamed on his father vlad tepes the first AKA dracul (that is not a typo) you see vlad the first sold his son, the future vlad the impaler to turkish slavers when he was about eleven or twelve, also while being a slave, vlad was repeadtly abused both mentaly and physiscally by his captors, also his brother, who became loyal to the turks attempted to kill his wife, during vlads first war with the turks. but also he did what he did becuase he was mentaly sadistic, meaning he literally got sexually aroused when he killed people, scientist have proved he had a rare condition that when he smelled blood he got hungrey and according to diaryies of his children he would drink blood and eat human flesh whenever he got the chance.

Was vlad the impaler gay?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

He impaled other people not himself.

Funny answer, but seriously, not a whole lot is known about Vlad's personal life outside of his two marriages, other than an alleged affair with a woman named Catarina/Ecaterina, who he was rumored to be very involved with and might have been the reason for his imprisonment in Hungary. He may or may not have had any homosexual affairs, but many suspect that his brother, Radu the Handsome was involved with Mehmed the II, the son of the Sultan who held him and Vlad hostage when they were young.

Is there a fearless leader by the name Vladimir?

User Avatar

Asked by Jkslayer2000

Vladimir III Tepes son of Vladimir II Dracul is the 3rd prince of Wallachia. He is more commonly known as Vlad the Impaler (that's what Tepes means) or in fiction as Dracula. Putting the fiction part to the side, Vlad is still considered as a national war hero in Wallachia for his resistance against the Ottoman Empire and its expansion. He was brutal and fearless (at least to us) in both his ruling and war tactics. To break a law in his land during his reign was to wish for a horrible punishment, most likely death (quick if you're lucky). He ruled three times and 1-2 months within his 3rd reign, he was beheaded in battle.

Why did Vlad the impaler kill as many people?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Vlad Dracula was at war with the Ottaman Turk. When ever he defeated a Turkish army he would kill all the captive to make sure they wouldn't invade again.

Vlad the Impaler killed so many people so he could rule Wallachia easier because its easier to rule over people that are afraid of you. Vlad would perfectly fit the modern clinical description "sadistic psychopath". He truly enjoyed torturing and killing others.

How is Vlad the Impaler a vampire?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Vlad Tepes is not, nor was he ever, a vampire; Count Dracula was based on Vlad III much in the same way that Mary Shelley based Dr. Victor Frankenstein on the ancient Greek titan Prometheus. While Bram Stoker was researching for his novel Dracula, he read many accounts of Vlad's ruthless methods, most notable his eating amongst the freshly-impaled corpses of his enemies. This idea of feasting with the dead has never been proven as fact, as all references to these actions came from possible propaganda put forth by the Ottoman Turks. He was not a vampire and died in 1476 at the age of 45, ending his third reign as voivode of Wallachia.

Was Vlad the Impaler imprisoned in Turkey?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In 1436, His father Dracul ascended the throne of Wallachia. He was ousted in 1442 by rival factions in league with Hungary, but secured Ottoman support for his return agreeing to pay tribute to the Sultan and also send his two younger sons, Vlad and Radu the Handsome, to the Ottoman court, to serve as hostages of his loyalty.

In 1444, at the age of thirteen, young Vlad and his brother Radu were sent to Adrianople as hostages, to appease the Sultan. He remained there until 1448, at which time he was released by the Turks, who supported him as their candidate for the Wallachian throne. Vlad's younger brother apparently chose to remain in Turkey, where he had grown up. (Radu is later supported by the Turks as a candidate for the Wallachian throne, in opposition to his own brother, Vlad.)

In Adrianople, Vlad was locked up in prison and often whipped and beaten because of his verbal abuse towards his captors and his stubborn behavior, while his younger brother Radu the Handsome was much easier to control. Radu converted to Islam entered the service of Sultan Murad II's son, Mehmed II (later known as the Conqueror), and was allowed into the Ottoman royal court.

When did Vlad the Impaler become ruler of wallachia?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Vlad III served as ruler of Wallachia three times. The first was in 1448 after his father was assassinated and his older brother blinded and buried alive in December of 1447. This reign lasted less than a year before he was exiled to live under the protection of his uncle in Moldavia. Vlad III would eventually reconquer Wallachia in 1456 and remained as voivode until 1462 when he was arrested while in Hungary seeking help in his war against the invading Ottomans, lead by his younger brother Radu. He returned after years of imprisonment and reclaimed the throne in November 1476, only to be assassinated in January 1477.

Did Vlad the impaler roast children?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No one can really say this. It is known that Vlad the Impaler was very cruel and had some cruel punishments and methods of execution (e.g. impaling), but there are so many legends about him - most of them were invented by his enemies - that people cannot say what was invented and what really happened.
