As for the current war in Afghanistan, the al-Qaeda branch based in Afghanistan attacked the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, killing almost 3000 people. The Taliban supported al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, so the US responded by attacking the Taliban. The Americans had the support of the Northern Alliance, the internationally recognized government of Afghanistan at the time. The Northern Alliance would only support the operation if the US promised to stay and restore order after the Taliban had been ousted.
Afghanistan is not at war with anyone. Afghanistan barely has a government and an army. First off the war is still raging intensely but everyone has forgotten about it. The Americans and the british are the two main organized forces. The "enemy" are the Taleban who are the enforcers of the Islamic religion and the Koran the sacred book of the Islamic people.
