At 32 a professional bodybuilder is nearing the end of his ability to build strength. That is why a lot of sports athlets tend to retire by their mid thirties. However, it's never too late for someone to start working out with weights you just have to be safe and work with what you can control. I have been arround gyms and know a few guys who train for regional competitions. A friend of mine is 44 and can bench 370 with no professional background or offical training other then his basement and a spotter.
I'm a basketball player and some players like Dwight Howard and Lebron James are rumoured to be able to bench in the mid 300's. Some of the smaller players would not be able to bench 200. However, you might not be able to find a professional football player outside of the punter who couldn't bench 200lbs.
I would say 200 lbs is generally a strong man. It's a good benchmark for those who have been arround sports or consider themself hardy or strong. Because most men will not be disposed to heavy lifting they will never bench that much.
An average 32 year old man in North American culture could probably bench 150-170 or so with a weeker man benching under 140. Most men are also incapable of benching their own weight.

What can the average 17-year-old bench press?
It all depends on how much you weight, how long you have lifted and many other factors. A good scale to follow by is your body weight. The average 17 year old should be benching at or above your body weight.
This is what a person should be able to lift, but if you take the average 17 yr. old the can not bench their weight.. take the average doest play football or wrestle, which is the 2 primary sports where weight lifting is part of the program. They will lift weights in basketball but it is for a different purpose not for bruit strength its more for stamina.
Hell the average person should be able to do this as well but most people who do not work out can not lift their weight.

Well I'm 14... and not built huge in the way that I have a average to small body frame, but I lift 6 kilos in curls and can bench 20 kilos about 25 times non stop (I'm just using mine as a guideline).... so at sixteen if you are just starting on weights if you're quite strong start on a weight like 6-10 curl or if your stronger 10-15 or whatever. You should be able to lift 15 kilos over your head at sixteen if you can't you should train with weights. If you're really into getting strong and tank I would also recommend a martial art... maybe boxing, kickboxing, mu tai, hapkido or bj.
---I am 16 years old, I work out often. Around 3 hours a day. I can curl 31 KG on each arm. I can bench a total of 96 KG. On my 4-arms, i curl 22 KG. For crunch's on a vertical incline I add weight and on a single crunch i place 3 20 KG plates on my chest (60KG) For Lat pull downs i put on around 70KG. For a chest fly i use 22KG weights in each hand, (44KG). I don't recommend you doing something like that, you might hurt yourself. Although keep puching yourself and you will reach it. But to use up calories you need something for that use to happen in, and that means muscles.
If you're starting from pure couch potato, a bit of weight training will give you more muscle, and make it possible for you to burn more calories through that.
Keep in mind though that the big thing in weight loss is your diet. If you are overating it's pretty much impossible to exercise hard enough to lose anything that way. A snack that takes 5 minutes to eat, like a cupcake, can take one hour to burn off.
