How does weight training increase muscle fiber size by increasing the number of myofibrils?

Weight training causes muscular hypertrophy, which is broken down into two types. Myofibrillar hypertrophy causes an increase in size of muscle fibers, which are made of myofibrils. Myofibrils are incapable of mitotic reproduction, so you cannot create new ones. Instead, satellite cells that are localized in the sarcolemma underneath the basal lamina are recruited into becoming new myofibrils when needed.

What is the best way to build your arm muscles?

Work out every other day. And constantly move up in weight.

For example, do 4 sets of 6 reps on the benchpress.

Do them (just an example), 225-230-235-240

Every 2-3 workout sessions you have to force yourself to move up in weight. So a few days later you should be on: 230-235-240-245

Use the 2.5 pound plates, don't listen to other people say it doesn't do anything for you. Fact is, it does.

How many bench press reps with 135 lbs can the average eighth grader lift?

it greatly depends on there weight and if they have lifted in the past but i would say 1 to 3 reps i was doing 8 to 10 reps when i was in 8th grade

It all depends on the person. If they are an athlete who has been training for awhile, they could probably do a few. If they are a normal kid who doesn't play any sports they probably can't do it once. I know guys in high school that can't do it once, but they don't play sports. Even an athlete in 8th grade may not be able to do it because many kids won't start training with weights until high school. So for the stud Middle school athlete, yeah they could probably throw up a few reps. For an average kid, probably not.

What is the difference between the terms power lifting and weight lifting?

Weight training is the science of using weights (or another form of external resistance) in order to train your body to perform a certain task with better ease, efficiency, or technique. This broad category includes simple ankle weights worn while jogging, all the way up to half-ton leg presses.

Weight lifting (i.e. bodybuilding) is a subset of weight training. It specifically identifies the discipline of weight training for the purpose of building larger, stronger, or more well-defined muscles. This is in contrast to weight training, which includes those things, plus weight loss, balance, flexibility, and certain athletic skills.

How many calories do you burn lifting 20 lbs?

Depends on how many times you lift it. Once doesn't use up enough to matter either way. You'd have to keep going, continuously, for the better part of an hour to achieve anything.

Weight loss and calorie burn through exercise is mainly about getting and keeping your heart rate up. And pretty much all kinds of consistent activites, like running, bicycling, swimming, dancing etc etc does a better job of keeping your heart rate up than lifting weights does.

If you can lift weights at a high enough intensity and long enough to match the pulse rate and duration of a run, they you'll burn the same amount of calories. But odds are you can't.

I can do around 1000 cal/hour during intense cardio, but find it really difficult to get past 600 while doing weight training.

Keep in mind that the big thing is your diet. If you are overeating it's pretty much impossible to exercise hard enough to lose anything that way. A snack that takes 5 minutes to eat, like a cupcake, can take one hour to burn off.
