What instruments use a a double reed?
The most common double reed instruments are oboe, English horn (cor anglais) and bassoon. The oboe is a soprano instrument, the English horn is essentially an alto oboe, the tenor or baritone range of the oboe family is occupied by the now-rare Baritone oboe. The Bassoon is considered the bass of the double-reed family, although its range covers from Bass to high tenor. The Contrabassoon, used in some very large orchestral pieces, is essentially a bassoon, but twice as long, and therefore an octave lower.
While these are the common orchestra and band instruments which use a double reed, there are others. For instance, the Bagpipes almost invariably use a double reed for the melody-tube (chanter), and the basque Bombarde is essentially a bagpipe chanter without a bagpipe. (The bagpipe drones are sounded with a unique type of single reed.)
Double reed instruments predate single-reed melody instruments in Western Civilization music, although in Africa, single reed instruments (with a reed on much the same design as bagpipe drone reeds) are not uncommon.
In ancient Greece, the double reed instruments were the Aulos (soprano) and Phagotum (a folded bass which may have given the European name to the bassoon: fagotto.)

How do you get rid of metal smell on old saxophone?
The saxophone is made of a variety of parts and with this it takes extreme care and maintenance to prevent problems or damages. Luckily smell is not going to affect your playing, unless it's so smelly that you cannot bare breathing and playing. However, it will be difficult to get the metal smell out of your saxophone. The easiest way to do this would be to send your saxophone for an overhaul, a process where an instrument is completely taken apart and each piece is cleaned. The negative to an overhaul is the price as it will be extremely expensive and may cost you over $1,000. So if the overhaul is not an option for you, I would suggest taking it to the shop for a minor clean, replacing the pads, and then maintaining it well. You should swab it everyday to prevent from bacteria growing, and personally I think it takes away a little of that metal smell.

Why is Kenny g a favorite saxophone player?
He plays fairly interesting melodic solos that are easy to listen to. His sound on the soprano sax is pleasant and he plays well in tune (which isn't that easy on soprano sax). Although a lot of serious musicians think he's predictable and not all that interesting, casual listeners won't be confused or driven away by sounds that they don't understand. I'd say he's found a niche. Wish I could.

What type of supplies does a tenor saxophone need?
Saxophones require swabs - I use a big one for the body, a small one for the neck, and a silk cloth for the mouthpiece. Use these to clean the water out of the instrument after it's played, every time.
You should lubricate the cork at the top of the body where the neck goes on with cork grease every now and then.
Reeds. I have a supply of several stiffnesses, and also carry a couple of plastic-coated reeds just in case. I also carry several different brands. I seem to always come back to Ricos or LaVoz reeds, though. If you are a pro, then you will probably use higher quality reeds. But if you are a pro, you already know that.
Some people like to use a reed trimmer to fine-tune the thin edge of the reed.
Light oil to lube all the various moving parts. Apply the oil with a very fine-tipped little bottle. If you cannot find them at the music store, look in a hobby store that carries model train sets.
Use a clean, soft cotton or silk cloth to thoroughly wipe down the outside of the sax every time after you play it.
I like to use tone key pad papers to clean the keypads every couple of weeks. A lot of players use a folded in half dollar bill, but the papers have a super-fine powder to help keep the pads from sticking to the tone holes.
Get a small supply of clothespins or bulldog clips to hold music sheets to your stand if you play outdoors.
