Why should professional wrestling be known as an art form?
It is always asked, by those who miss the point, is professional wrestling fake?
Well, it is fake in that they are not truly trying to hurt the other. But in another sense, it is real - a real art.
They are superbly trained and developed athletes, performing shows that are as choreographed as a ballet, and as subject to randomness as good jazz. There is the basic "act" that will be performed, but then there are improvisations that each may do - with the other having to effortlessly accomodate that.
It is performance art, it is dance and ballet, it is a display of the strength and speed of men at their best, it is a story, and it is a play. History will record it as probably one of the most demanding art forms ever undertook, as such a diverse range of skills are needed to perform it.
In that sense, never again doubt if it is real. It is real - a real art.
