Where did Auburn University get their mascot name come from?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Upon entering college in1949 everyone called the college Auburn. It was just too much to say Alabama Polytechnic Institute or even write it on a check. Besides just spelling Polytechnic was a chore so if the official name was used at all it was shortened to API.

At that time, it was as if the city of Auburn was named after the school. At football games the cheer leaders would lead with the yell: AU -- BU -- RN and the stadium would join in Auburn, Auburn, Auburn. There was only one college at the time. That other school was called a University.

Why do students cheat?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The main reason is that examination is believed to be the best measure of ones intellectual capacity; hence students cheat to prove it to others.

Secondly, when students are not prepared for the examination they may think they are forced to, so they can pass or get a better grade.

Also, if you are in an environment where everybody's cheating and teachers are indifferent, you kind of have to in order not to stay behind.

Some schools where the teachers are simply not efficient in spotting out cheaters encourages students to cheat. Since the like hood of being caught is slim.

Finally, some students simply surrender to peer pressure because they cannot bear standing out in the crowd.

What are the requirements to get into Auburn University?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Couldn't find the exact minimum requirement but Auburn had a listing of their overexertion averages were 24.3 on the ACT (composite score) and 1122 on the SAT I. A little trick someone taught me when I was applying to colleges was, transfer students seem to have a much easier time being accepted than others. So if you can't meet the minimums required to attend your "dream" school maybe one could consider starting somewhere else and transferring at a later date. Not that I'm telling you how to go about making such an important decision, but it's one more piece of information to consider along the way.

According to The Princeton Review, the middle 50%* of students scored in the following ranges on the ACTs:

ACT Scores

Composite......23 - 29

Math..............22 - 28

English...........24 - 30

Writing...........22 - 27

Average HS GPA: 3.69

* This indicates 25% of incoming freshman scored below the published range in one or more areas, while the top 25% scored above the published range. Auburn uses a comparative, rather than fixed-score, method to evaluate freshman applications.
