How long do you wait after taking Darvocet to take suboxone?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I took two Darvocets this morning (about 8:00 a.m.) then took my regular 8 mg Suboxone about 2:00 p.m. and feel great. I've been on 16 mg Sub (one in the a.m. and one in the p.m.) a day now almost three years. There is not enough Naloxone in the 8 mg tablets to make you sick unless you crush/inject it. It's only then that the Naloxone is activated. So, I'd say within four-six hours or so after taking an opiate, you're good to go with the Sub as long as you take it as directed (sublingually, no injecting).

Is vicodin or Darvocet a more effective painkiller?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. Vicodin is much stronger than Darvon. Both are narcotic pain relievers which require a prescription in order for you to obtain them legally. Darvon can be perscibed with another pain reliever like Tramadol in order to relieve pain. Their are similar effects from both because they are derivitives of an opiate-like substance which acts on centers in the brain that tell you how to perceive pain. If you are not use to taking Vicodin, Darvan would be a better option because it would not knock you out, rather, just puts you in a good mood and takes the edge off the pain. Vicodin knocks the pain out and definitley makes you a bit loopy. Some side effects of Vicodin can be nausea (if taken on an empty stomach), lightheadedness, tracers, etc. Vicodin is definitley for moderate to extreme pain and should not be taken if you have a history of drug addiction or drug seeking nature.

Can you take amoxicillin with Darvocet?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes, but you need to be careful and aware that the combination of any painkiller with an antibiotic may make you drowsier than normal. Of course it all depends on your dependence/tolerance level of Darvocet dosage that you're taking. If you've been taking it for some time, then it might not be as bad. Still, you might want to consider taking it before you go to sleep depending on how drowsy it makes you feel.

Also be sure to take it with a lot of water. Depending on how much Darvocet affects your stomach, any antibiotic will normally make you queasy as well, so dilute it as much as possible by drinking a good bit of water with it when you take it.

Are Darvocet and Valium the same?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Depending on the dosages, mixing Valium and Vicodin can result in respiratory failure and death. Narcotic pain killers like Vicodin and benzodiazepines like Valium can be a deadly combination.

Personal comments:

  • I currently take 30mg of Vicodin per day and 20mg of Valium; however, you should not drive on this level of medications. Also, you should not take them together at the same time.
  • I usually take 30 mg Vicodin in the morning to alleviate my pain and will take 20mg Valium about 8-10 hours later. I have a high tolerance to both meds.
  • Neither medicine should be taken just to get high. Medicines are almost always associated with side effects and often they are serious side effects and some may cause death, especially when they are mixed with other medicines.
  • Always ask a doctor before mixing these medications and see how they affect you before doing even ordinary tasks until you know how these meds will affect you.
  • Always take medications under the supervision of a doctor.

Will Darvocet and percocet show up as the same thing on a urine drug screening?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No. They are not chemically related and would have to be tested for separately and specifically. Hydrocodone is a semi-synthetic opioid usually made from thebaine, an alkaloid naturally found in the opium poppy. Darvocet is a combination of acetaminophen (tylenol) and propoxyphene, a totally synthetic drug chemically related to methadone.

Does Darvocet have codeine in it?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

No Darvocet (acetaminophen and propoxyphene) does not contain codeine.

Darvocet is not known as percocet, (percocet is oxycodone) and is also a 1/4 of the strength of codeine. It is also more closely related to Demerol then codeine. It would take 2 darvocet 100 to even match the strength of one hydrocodone.

Can you take Darvocet and lorazepam together?

I have used hydomorohone intraveineously and 10 mg Valium orally together without any problems but I would definitlely be very careful depending on your tolerance levels for each. I was doing 3 to 4 8mg pills through IV and only 1 or 2 Valium later at night to sleep.

Can you take hydrocodone Darvon and prochlorperazine together?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Prochlorperazine may enhance the hypotensive effect (abnormally low blood pressure) of Darvon and hydrocodone. The benefits of combined use of these medications usually outweigh the risks and you should talk to your doctor if you have any concerns as dosage and timing do play a role in unwanted side effects.

Also both Darvon and hydrocodone are central nervous system depressants and the use of these two drugs together should be monitored. Some side effects may include, but are not limited to, ataxia, confusion, drowsiness, respiratory depression, and weakness. Since both medications have the potential to depress CNS function it is important to recognize that the risk of unwanted effects may increase with such use.

Can you take vicodin and Darvocet at the same time?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Darvocet contains Acetaminophen and Advil is Ibuprofen, an NSAID. Acetaminophen is not a NSAID and should not be taken with Ibuprofen due to the increased risk for liver and/or kidney toxicity. You can alternate Tylenol with Advil as such: 09:00 AM-2 Tylenol
12:00 PM-2 Advil
03:00 PM-2 Tylenol
06:00 PM-2 Advil
etcetera etcetera. approximately every 3 hours alternate.
This way your kidneys and liver won't be bombarded with 2 liver toxic and/or kidney toxic drugs at the same time. A healthy liver and set of kidneys will do fine with just one of the 2, but taking them at the same time sets you up for damage. Hope this helps!
