Yes, having back-to-back observances of Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples Day allows for a more balanced and inclusive recognition of both perspectives. It acknowledges the historical significance of Columbus while also highlighting and honoring the experiences and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. This approach promotes a more nuanced understanding of history and fosters reconciliation and dialogue.
Columbus Day was first celebrated as a national holiday in the United States in 1937. It is observed on the second Monday in October to honor Christopher Columbus's arrival in the Americas on October 12, 1492.
It may seem strange to see a werewolf on Columbus Day because the holiday is typically associated with the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the Americas, rather than mythical creatures like werewolves. Werewolves are commonly associated with folklore and horror stories, which is unrelated to the historical context of Columbus Day.
Some schools are closed for Columbus Day and some are open. Each school system sets its own calendar. As long as school is in session the required number of days, they can pick which holidays they are not open.
I am sorry for the person who gave the following answer:
"In the time it took you to type this questions, you could have called your bank and found out directly from them."
He/she could have just answered the question instead of treating people from on-high. Here again is a form of Bullying people.
Try to just be nice the next time.
There are a number of holidays in the US calendar that are recognized but not celebrated nationwide. In a country the size of America, events that are important in one area may not be seen in quite the same way as in others.
It is also worth mentioning that Thanksgiving is a celebration of one of the early milestones in the birth of the country. July 4th is another important milestone in history. Perhaps Columbus arriving in the land is one celebration too many for most states.
Fish-frys and barbecues are also popular. Karaoke is another event which takes place at various night clubs, bars and restaurants and tends to attact a mature crowd. In addition, the Sunday night hangout at the seawall draws a large crowd. Then you have the dancehall scene at various clubs with popular sound systems like Fusion and Lion Heart. because people think he supposedly founded America. He didn't though.
Christopher Columbus was the first European to cross over the Atlantic ocean and document a new land. There were a few issues with his crossing. He thought, for example, he had landed in India. There are people that would diminish his contributions, but prior to the landing by Columbus, the known world had no idea that anything was west of the Ocean. He was a great man that was years ahead of his time.
There is some evidence that a few individuals came from Norway or other countries to the new land, but their discoveries were not documented and no trail of there crossing is recoverable. Columbus allowed the ability for Europeans to develop the new world. An awesome accomplishment, to say the least.
With regard to the fact that he represented the takeover of the Americas by European races, Columbus and all explorers were detrimental to the cultures of Native Americans.
However, the current nations that exist in North and South America would not exist, and the world would not have benefitted from them, if not for the pioneering voyages of Columbus.
it is the day christopher Columbus founded America when he thought he was in India so when he saw people on the land he called then INDIAn's and claimed the land
I would say that around 50,000 died. Historians under the Tudors said things like "more Englishmen died in the WotR than the 100 Year's War." That's ridiculous. In the Hundred Year's War, 3 million people died.
Hope this helps.

Around the time of Galileo, there was a strong following of Catholicism in Europe. Galileo agreed with Copernicus that the Earth revolved around the sun instead of the Earth being the center of the universe (which is what the Catholics preached). Galileo also had a fan base, and whatever he said they believed. Since he agreed with Copernicus, the Pope threatened to torture him if he published his agreement and beliefs.
Basically there were to factions at this time period (late 1500's-early 1600's).
Christopher Columbus tortured and killed many Native Americans (Taino people) when he landed his three ships in the West Indies. Also he made some of them slaves. The slaves are believed to have rebelled against him until help from Spain arrived.
The first Columbus Day celebration was held in 1792. New York City celebrated the 300th anniversary of Columbus landing in the New World. In 1892, President Harrison called on the people of the United States to celebrate Columbus Day on the 400th anniversary of the event.
Since then we have been pooping in style.
He wrote in his diary that he had met the Native people of Hispanolia and thought they would make good slaves. He wasn't sure they were human and was positive they were inferior.
They Celebrate El Dia De La Raza(El dee-a day lah rasa ) on Columbus day.
Because The "columbus day" holiday is the only national holiday that is overtly insulting to millions of Americans.
No USPS mail on Columbus Day.
