What kind of paper do you use for making stained glass patterns?

User Avatar

Asked by Jh6868

If you have the pattern you can transfer to any kind of paper, if you need to trace a pattern use tracing paper and transfer on to heavy weight paper, you can do this a couple of ways, carbon paper or once you have traced your pattern flip it over and use a soft lead pencil and scribble over your traced lines, flip it back over and lay it on your heavy weight paper, tape down and trace again, now you have your pattern on your chosen paper.

How do you cut stained glass?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I found a website [see below] with very good information. Here it is and I hope it helps you too. It explains more than stained glass cutting.

COMMENT:

Cutting of stained glass is almost a Zen experience. You have to know if the glass is warm enough, know the proper frying bacon sound that the scoring tool makes, and trust that when you flex with your thumbs that you won't sever anything important.

When it works it feels great. When it doesn't you are left with an oddly shaped piece of pricey waste glass.

The physical parts are:

  • You scratch a line into the surface of the glass with a small tool with a carbide wheel at its tip. You then flex the glass slightly over the scratch . A crack follows the scored line and you have two pieces.
  • Alternately there are glass bandsaws with a small diamond imbedded wire blade that lets you saw the glass like a board.

Will a glass window attract heat and trap it?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

YUPPERS! and it will trap most of it but not all

2nd Answer:

Ummm . . . a glass window does not attract heat. It does not 'trap' it, either. The glass may allow heat through, or glass can heat up, itself, but then it can radiate that heat away when the air around the glass is cooler than it is. That is certainly not, "Trapping" the heat.

In what ways did stained glass art influence manuscript illumination in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I assume your on Aurora? If not then this is a general question.

The thing is Stained glass art didn't completely influence or inspire the illumination. The question is not phrased very well. I know how hard it was to find info, so I am posting this. This was my answer- what I found:

"Stained glass developed in PARALLED to manuscript illumination. The stained glass was striking and drew people's eyes-use of similar colors, drawing(shapes in the glass) and medallion frameworks were also used in manuscripts for a similar reason. Stained glass panels in churches and cathedrals often illustrated stories for a largely illiterare populace. To show those who were illiterare, or those who couldn't read very well, what was going on." -MH

Does flux used on stained glass ever go bad in the bottle?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Yes; it gets old and becomes less effective. It will turn your solder lines a sort of brownish black.

You can put a dash of salt in the patina to make it more abrasive AND heat water in a separate pan or glass pyrex dish putting the patina bottle with cap on NOT tight to warm the patina up before using. It helps, but is minimal.
