Pull the belts, remove the center retaining bolt then use a harmonic balancer puller to remove the pulley. Make sure you use a disk that will protect the threads of the cranshaft when you tighten the puller.
That should be at the front of the engine by the crankshaft pulley / harmonic balancer
under the hood , on the harmonic balancer and the timin marks on the timin eye marker with a timin light
After removing the bolt, use a large gear puller. Tighten the puller, tap the head with a hammer, then tighten again. After a few repetitions the balancer will break free.
The crank shaft sensor is located jusy behind the harmonic balancer just to tge left as you are facing the engine.
There is a front pulley, a center bolt and washer AND a spacer behind the washer that has to come off before putting on the puller. I didnt know this and tried to pull balancer, this spacer is pressed in or it was after i tried to pull balancer off over it !
no
where is the driveshaft on a 2005 Ford Ranger
That balancer requires a 3-jaw puller to pull it off, just be sure you have the claws on straight, and if it gets too tight to turn the end of the puller, tap on the end with a hammer, then turn some more.
i have a 95 ranger with the 2.3L The sensor is located behind the harmonic balancer. It has three grooves in it that slide on unique spaced rings. The timing belt cover will have to be removed from the front in order to access the harness as it enters from the rear of the cover. It becomes visible once the harmonic balancer (or its belt retaining ring ) is removed. To service it you will have to remove the large bolt in the center that holds the balancer on. Then slide the balancer off and you can loosen the two screws holding it on. There is also a wire tie holding the harness down so that it does not rub any moving parts. Be sure to replace this when reassembling. There is an alignment tool made by OTC ( part number 6466 ) that you will need to use to position a new or replacement sensor. Place the engine at top dead center while on the compression stroke and place the little plastic tool on the locating blocks and exciter ring(s) of the harmonic balancer. At that point you can place the sensor and tighten down the screws that hold the sensor on.
Look by the balancer.
should be by balancer
