Answer AIslam is a religion of mercy. Islam does not permit terrorism.

In the Quran, Holy book of Islam, God has said:

" God does not forbid you from showing kindness and dealing justly with those who have not fought you about religion and have not driven you out of your homes. God loves just dealers."(Quran, chapter 60/ verse 8)

Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) used, in any military conflict, to prohibit soldiers from killing women, children, old people, or any civilian. He would advise them: {...Do not betray, do not be excessive, do not kill a newborn child.} And he also said: {Whoever has killed a person having a treaty with the Muslims shall not smell the fragrance of Paradise, though its fragrance is found for a span of forty years.}

Also, the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) has forbidden punishment with fire.

He once listed murder as the second of the major sins (the first major sin is denying the oneness of God), and he even warned that on the Day of Judgment, {The first cases to be adjudicated between people on the Day of Judgment will be those of bloodshed.}

Muslims are even encouraged to be kind to animals and are forbidden to hurt them. Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) said: {A woman was punished because she imprisoned a cat until it died. On account of this, she was doomed to Hell. While she imprisoned it, she did not give the cat food or drink, nor did she free it to eat the insects of the earth.}

He also said that a man gave a very thirsty dog a drink, so God forgave his sins for this action. The Prophet was asked, "Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?" He said: {There is a reward for kindness to every living animal or human.}

Additionally, while taking the life of an animal for food, Muslims are commanded to do so in a manner that causes the least amount of fright and suffering possible. The Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) said: {When you slaughter an animal, do so in the best way. One should sharpen his knife to reduce the suffering of the animal.}

In light of these and other Islamic texts, the act of inciting terror in the hearts of defenseless civilians, the wholesale destruction of buildings and properties, the bombing and maiming of innocent men, women, and children are all forbidden and detestable acts according to Islam and the Muslims. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the vast majority have nothing to do with the violent events some have associated with Muslims. If an individual Muslim were to commit an act of terrorism, this person would be guilty of violating the laws of Islam.

Islam calls for peace love and living in harmony with all people irrelevant to their cultures, faiths, gender, or color.

Islamic terrorism is a new term falsified by media and politicians to go ahead with their plans of getting control of Muslim countries and to limit the growth of number of people converting to Islam.

Answer BBetter answer: Yes. Some Muslims, taking their message to an extreme interpretation, believe that Islam is telling them to kill all non-believers. While the majority of Muslims ARE NOT TERRORISTS, the majority of TERRORISTS ARE MUSLIMS...

Terrorism is not related to Islam. Islam is a peaceful religion.

Answer C (Hint on Answer B)
  • Your statement that 'Terrorism is not related to Islam. Islam is a peaceful religion' is absolutely true.
  • If you check carefully the terrorist records, sure you will find your statement that 'While the majority of Muslims ARE NOT TERRORISTS, the majority of TERRORISTS ARE' MUSLIMS... ' is not absolutely true. Media has played strong role in visualising that most terrorists are Muslims. Example evidences are:
    • When Muslims are resisting occupants of their lands they are called Muslim terrorists. Notice that, currently, all world occupied lands and countries are only belonging to Muslim majorities while non of other religion majorities are currently under occupation.
    • When terrorist act happens by non Muslims (Christians, Jews, or any other religion) they are propagated by their nationality (Irish, Israelis, Serbians, Indians, ...) and not by their religion. However, when a terrorist act happens by Muslims, they are propagated by their religion and not by their nationality. This is to falsify the Muslim view in the eyes of the public and to justify the governments acts against Muslims in many countries.
    • Historically, refer to terrorist acts in Serbia, in Chechen, in China, in Korea, in Japan, in USA and Australia against the original inhabitants, in Spain, during the WW1 and WW2, ... etc to recognize objectively that not the majotity of terrorists are Muslims.

Answer AIt is the opposite. Islam is against terrorism and calls for peace (that is the very Arabic meaning of Islam), love, and harmony among all mankind regardless their faith, culture, color, gender, or the like.

Terrorism is a crime against humanity. Terrorism is an act of devil and all religions, including Islam, and holy books, including Quran, are against terrorism and condemn it. However, terrorists from all religions and culture are present from time to time and never called, through media or politicians, by their religion, rather called by their nationalities except if terrorists are Muslims. This confirms that Islamic terrorism is just a new term falsified by historians, media and politicians and propagated to go ahead with their plans of getting control of Muslim countries and to limit the growing number of people converting to Islam.

Islam is a religion that means "peace" and surrender to the only one God. In the Quran, the Holy Book of Islam, God commands believers to bring peace and security to mankind. The Islamic morality is the cure for terrorism, not the source of it. (Book: Islam denounces terrorism, Author: Haroun Yahia)

In the Quran, Holy book of Islam, God says (meaning English translation):

" God does not forbid you from showing kindness and dealing justly with those who have not fought you about religion and have not driven you out of your homes. God loves just dealers."(Quran, chapter 60/ verse 8)

Prophet Muhammad teaching is that murder considered as the second of the major sins (the first major sin is denying the oneness of God), and he even warned that on the Day of Judgment, {The first cases to be adjudicated between people on the Day of Judgment will be those of bloodshed.}

Muslims are encouraged to be kind and peaceful even to animals and are forbidden to hurt them. Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) said: {A woman was punished because she imprisoned a cat until it died. On account of this, she was doomed to Hell. There may be some confusion between Jihad (or struggle) which is licit in Islam under certain conditions and terrorism. Jihad means literally to struggle. One may struggle in many different ways: pay the bill, study for a test, raise a family, fight a war, etc.

Jihad can be either self Jihad or military jihad.

Self Jihad means self struggle to obey the Creator and avoid sins as well as acts yourself, your community, your religion, your family, your neighbours, etc.

Military jihad is licit only you fulfil the following conditions:

o - Fight only in self defense or against oppression

o - Never Kill Innocent People

o - Never Injure Prisoners of War

o - Never Kill Animals

o - Never Destroy Crops or Infrastructures

o - Never Mutilate Bodies of Enemies dead or alive

o - All Prisoners Should be Given Fair Treatment

o - Women & Children Should be Protected From Harm

o - Always Bury the Dead With Respect

If the above conditions are met, then military jihad is licit and justified.

To sum up; Islam calls for peace love and living in harmony with all people regardless their cultures, faiths, gender, or color.

Islam is not related to terror. Islam by its definition calls to submission to God (Allah in Arabic) and to achieving peace within yourself, your community, and the whole universe. That is just a stereotype people today have. Your question is quite broad, terror is an act of desperation and any people who have no hope will resort to this when there is no alternatives. Please try and post a question that shares what you want to know. in general no one can claim that Islam is related to terrorism, Islamic law is the first law that puts rules for waging wars, the prophet Mohamed (PBUH) ordered his followers not to harm a child, a woman , a priest who worships god even if it was not our god, or a man who cannot or has no intention to fight. also not to cut a tree or kill an animal or burn a house or to disfigure a died person. Muslims are forbidden to start a war. They get into war only when attacked. Muslims may wage a war only to lift oppression on people and let them practicing their free will of religion choice but only if the country rulers refuse to lift oppression on their people. It happened that the Islamic army entered a state (Samer quand) taking the advantage of surprise and after they fully conquered that state, the people of samer quand complained to the Islam ruler OMAR EBN ABD EL AZIZ who ordered the Islamic army to retreat. If this is terrorism then what is tolerance and respect to people lives and property. Any way what might be done by some Muslims of acts of terror is first not only done by Muslims it is done by many people from other religions. Second , you don't imagine the grieve and sadness and desperation that injustice to Muslim countries could do . You can't imagine the amount of injustice that a Muslim suffers around the world. Some Muslims' land , homes and honors are taken. the victims are considered terrorists and those who killed them and took their homes are claimed by the foreign press to be belonging to the greatest peace loving democratic country in the world. You only see one side of story that doesn't amount to even one over million of the truth.

Answer CIslam is a religion of mercy.

Also, the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) has forbidden punishment with fire.

He once listed murder as the second of the major sins (the first major sin is denying the oneness of God), and he even warned that on the Day of Judgment, {The first cases to be adjudicated between people on the Day of Judgment will be those of bloodshed.}

Muslims are even encouraged to be kind to animals and are forbidden to hurt them. Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace upon him) said: {A woman was punished because she imprisoned a cat until it died. Answer D It is very evident that the vast majority of Muslims are not terrorists, have nothing to do with terrorism and are just as concerned about terrorism as any other people in the world. To suggest that they are terrorists because of their faith will be most upsetting to them and I suggest you think about this.

Muslims make up a very large proportion of the earths population, don't you think there would be utter anarchy in the world if all Muslims were terrorists. The very fact that you ask such a question is only a reflection of what a narrow minded, brainwashed & immature individual you are.

Answer E

There is no basis in fact for stating that Islam causes terrorism, or that all terrorists are Muslim, or any such broad generalization equating Islam with terror. Islamic doctrine and scripture does not inherently promote terrorism or any such nonsense. However, there currently exists a problem with the reality of the religion, as it is currently being practiced, that doesn't exist with most other religions. This is twofold:

  1. Islam is a highly decentralized religion, which very little institutional controls. Unlike Judaism, Christianity, or even Buddhism or Sikhism, Islam as a whole has very little in the way of large denominations with institutional controls and structure. Thus, currently, Islam suffers from a "doctrinal acceptance" problem: there are no large denominations or institutions to say what a "proper" interpretation of the Koran is, and to discipline or purge those whose teachings are considered heretical. This leads to a religions which tends to be heavily dominated by the charismatic demagogue - a similar problem is exhibited by Evangelical Christianity inside the USA, but even there, such E.C. groups have the moderating influence of very large opposing denominations (such as the Catholic Church or mainline Protestant Churches), which can limit the acceptability of various Biblical interpretations considered valid by society as a whole. Islam currently has far fewer of those kind of limits, and, as such, results in a huge variety of interpretations, with very little ability to distinguish "valid" interpretation from "heretical" interpretation by societies as a whole.
  2. The vast majority of Muslims live in the 3rd world, in countries which have sub-standard education and living conditions, and ones with more oppressive governments (on average) than true for most other religions. This leads to the radicalization of the religious interpretation, where the inherently poor conditions of the followers make it hard for them to actually evaluate what radical clerics are preaching (i.e. they aren't educated enough to tell that they're being lied to), and to accept as reasonable options and actions which those (of the same nominal religion) in more well-off places would consider completely bonkers.

This leads to the problem of terrorists claiming to adhere to Islamic religion being much more prevalent than those holding other religious views. Also, note that many non-Islamic terrorist groups do NOT espouse ANY religious views at all, as they are primarily politically-oriented groups, while those originating from Islamic areas tend to incorporate Islam and politics together as a unifying force. Thus, we seldom acknowledge that, for instance, the Basque Separatists are actually Christian terrorists, because their primary doctrine isn't dictated by Christian beliefs.

Thus, the problem of associating Islam with Terrorism is one of historical and geopolitical situations at this point in time. It just so happens that right now, populations which claim to follow Islam are more likely to spawn (and support) terrorist groups than ones which follow other religions. This is, of course, highly locale-dependent, and was very, very different in the not very distant past (as recently as the 17th century, Christian and Buddhist terrorism was far more common than Islamic terrorists).

To deny that there currently exists a link TODAY between Islamic populations and higher instances of terrorist groups is to deny reality. To hold that such a link is inherent to Islam or is somehow unique or inevitable, is to deny both history and logical analysis.

Answer F (Hints on Answer E above)

In the above answer one assumes that there is strong link between Islam and terrorism due to the lack of institutions and leadership that prevent these terrorist acts that are against Islam teachings. I would like to draw the attention to the following events that prove that the issue is not the absence of institutions and that Islam is currently decentralized. If for other religions, institutions are available and centralized leaderships are available, how do you justify the following (that proves the false arguments in Answer E above):

  • Who is responsible of the massacres committed in Bosnia against Muslims. Were they Muslim terrorists?.
  • Who waged wars against Iraq, Afghanistan, the Palestinians, the Chechen? Were they Muslim terrorists?.
  • Who waged the WW1 and WW2 where millions of innocent civilians were killed? Were they Muslim terrorists?.
  • When Christians got control of Spain and defeated Muslims their, who destroyed Muslims homes, tortured Muslims and Jews and either forced them to convert to Christianity or to be expelled out of Spain. Were they Muslim terrorists?
  • Who made the massacres in Gaza burned people with Phosphorous explosives and destroyed their homes and schools? Were they Muslim terrorists?
  • Who destroyed all the infrastructure of Lebanon and killed Lebanese civilians? Were they Muslim terrorists?
  • Who destroyed completely the known country of Iraq based on false arguments that they have nuclear weapons and are still spreading chaos and conflicts there? Were they Muslim terrorists?.

An FBI report (refer to link below) shows that only a small percentage of terrorist attacks carried out on U.S. soil between 1980 and 2005 were perpetrated by Muslims. According to this report:

there were more Jewish acts of terrorism within the United States than Islamic (7% vs 6%). These radical Jews committed acts of terrorism in the name of their religion. These were not terrorists who happened to be Jews; rather, they were extremist Jews who committed acts of terrorism based on their religious passions, just like Al-Qaeda and company.

Based on our review of the approximately 2,400 terrorist attacks on U.S. soil contained within the START database, we determined that approximately 60 were carried out by Muslims.

Per this report, approximately 2.5% of all terrorist attacks on U.S. soil between 1970 and 2012 were carried out by Muslims.* This is a tiny proportion of all attacks.

If we look at worldwide attacks - instead of just attacks on U.S. soil - Sunni Muslims are the main perpetrators of terrorism. However: 1. Muslims are also the main victims of terror attacks worldwide; and 2. the U.S. backs the most radical types of Sunnis over more moderate Muslims and Arab secularists.).

State-sponsored terrorism is beyond the scope of this discussion, and was not included in our statistical analysis. Specifically, the following arguments are beyond the scope of this discussion, as we are focusing solely on non-state terrorism:

  • Arguments by University of Michigan Professor Juan Cole that deaths from 20th century wars could be labeled Christian terrorism
  • Arguments that our recent use of torture and double tap drone strikes are terrorism

I believe that the arguments that are set out in Answer E above justifying Islamic terrorism should apply also to all other religions and faiths.

It is to be noted that it is a media game and political agendas that are propagating false images about Islam and Muslims, first to limit spread of Islam religion and second to get control over Islamic countries and third to allow Israel dominance over the region.

It is not; as mentioned in Answer E; a problem of absence of institutions and/or sub-standard education and living conditions, and/or countries with more oppressive governments (on average) as these arguments are valid for most other religions and countries.

The only approach to eliminate terrorism in the world is to spread justice and equal world human and country rights among all world countries.

The religious structure of Islam is not designed to promote terrorism. Most Muslims behave indistinguishably from Non-Muslims on most key life-issues, such as work relationships, education, sports affiliations, socializing, etc.

That being said, the doctrines of Islam, particularly the holy Islamic struggle of Jihad, make Islam much more malleable to supporting terrorism and violence against civilians than most other religions. (This is not to say that Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. cannot be molded this way (and each has been), but it takes more doctrinal meddling.) Islam also is not a unity which allows Muslim terrorist organizations tell their membership that the fight in which they are engaged is properly guided and anyone who opposes them is not properly guided.

While there are certainly forms of terrorism that have nothing to do with Islam, like Eco-Terrorism, Abortion Clinic Bombings, and Tamil Tigers' Suicide Bombings. There is certainly terrorism that is related to or derived from certain interpretations of Islam and Islamic Law.

1. Religion as a Direct Cause
The first and most prominent way that religion leads to war in the Middle East is the rise of Islamism and Jihadism. To clarify terms, Islam is a religion and Jihad is a religious concept within Islam. Islamism and Jihadism, however, are political ideologies whose goal is to bring the religious tenets of Islam into the daily functioning of a government and its laws. Jihadism not only wishes a particularly repressive version of Islamic Law to be instituted (Islamism), but believes that violence in defense of the faith is the preferred way to do this. Jihadism, like Islamism, is a political ideology rooted in Islamic religious concepts, but distorted. The distortion here is that there are many ways to advocate on behalf of Islam and the choice to exclusively use violence is a misinterpretation of the doctrine. There are a number of Jihadist militant groups in the Middle East, the most prominent being the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, Hezbollah, and Hamas. Because they have incorporated Islamic Law so firmly into their governing apparatus and their world view, their inspiration for outward violence is primarily religious.

2. Religion as a Secondary Inflammatory
The second way that religion will manifest in Middle Eastern conflict is as an inflammatory to cultural humiliations, economic or military failures, and other non-religious grievances, because religion will attach an eschatological or supernatural view on these events. This also makes negotiation or practical solutions useless because the actual issue (the supernatural one) cannot be adequately resolved. A perfect example of this is how the Iranian government, which supports both Hezbollah and Hamas (Jihadist militant organizations that attack Israel primarily), categorizes Israel as the Dajjal (the Islamic equivalent of the Anti-Christ), citing the awful treatment of the Palestinians under military occupation as the evidence of this claim. However, making the claim that Israel is supernaturally evil effectively means that the Israeli government and people cannot provide any solution that would work for Iran because Israel is inherently and inexorably evil and must be defeated for the end of the world (apparently a positive thing) to come.

3. Religion as an Ethnic Identifier
The third way is that, in many Middle Eastern state with large minorities, the conflicts between these groups break out along religious lines since the religions serve as good ethnic identifiers. This means that a person's religion is more or less akin to a different ethnicity rather than "simply a personal choice". This may be more familiar to a European context if Catholic and Anglican Irishmen are considered. In many cases both religious groups speak same language, eat the same foods, and live in mixed communities and mixed provinces. What is key to note, though, is that in these cases, religion is not used in the "dogmatic" or "excommunicatory" sense, which is to say that one religious group does not targeted because of its blasphemous beliefs, but because of the ethnic identities that are aligned by the religious groupings. The Lebanese Civil War and its continuing aftermath pitted Maronite Christians against Sunni Muslims against Shiite Muslims. The Iraqi Insurgency pitted a unified government with Kurdish Peshmerga allies against Shiite Extremists and Sunni Extremists. Just as in the Jugoslav case, these groups do not attack each other on account of their religious differences, but use the different religions to identify what part of society or which group each person belongs to.
