How useful are the concept of elasticity in running a business successfully?

By the concept of Elasticity in the context of running a business.. the best view is taken in the elasticity of demand. Goods and Services are either highly elastic or low elastic. A good with highly elastic demand will have higher changes to quantities demanded for relatively small changes in price. Whereas something with a lower elastic demand, will not have major changes in demand for a small change in price. So for example, the price of a diamond is highly elastic, a small change in say a fall of diamond prices will have a huge impact, whereas something like salt, an increase or decrease in price will not affect the amount demanded. Thats how useful the concept of elasticity is in running a business successfully.

Should the current economic crisis make you better off having your money as cash or in the bank?

That depends on whether or not you feel your money is safe in the bank. Remember, all money in bank deposits is insured up to $250,000. That means that even if your bank fails, you do not lose any money (unless you have over $250,000). No one has ever lost money that was insured by this program. Most would advise to keep money in the bank and let it earn interest rather than keep it in cash. The reason is simple: If you hide it in your house, what if your house burns down? If you carry it around, what if you get mugged or lose your wallet? If you bury it in the backyard, what if you forget where you buried it? Basically, it is less risky to keep it in a bank even if that bank has a risk of failure rather than trying to safeguard it yourself.

Why there is a recession?

This recession was first caused by banks lending money to people that weren't very likely to re-pay the money. This caused the trust in banks (by people, governemtns and other banks) to fall and now they won't lend money to each other. In a little more depth, the sub-prime mortgage market, a lack of risk-aversion and a lack of regulation caused bank's equity values to fall very rapidly and as a result the bank's are very wary about who they lend to in case they lose a lot of money and become insolvent. This causes a contraction in the money supply and this is prolonging the recession.

What are the reasons because the US economy is going down?

Firstly the loans caused a scatter of two states worth of new homes to draft mediaocrocy to a build up of what would be the subtotal of loan help which over 25 yrs drafted out as a couple thousand dollars. So the whole territory should have never heard to much. The second equation was loss of loan availbilty due to hast to saturation of amounts of rehashing criterium of loans. This slowed production of concisely built business to slow on going procedures causeing a drop in financial gains in the stock market. Once the financial gains slowed in industry of production the gains in logistics or trucking industry on down the line from food sales to landscaping took place. The factor was siezure of accounts out of Libya causeing oil production payees to slow the market out. Also the medical insurance argument which took place around a "Holiday" where much of the territory spends money was a slow in merchandising due to sways all through the stock market as people also pulled and re translated money. Really wierd diagonals. Thanks, Scott

Why don't we use the gold in fort knox?

The short answer is that we do. It's used as a reserve in case of any kind of financial disaster.

The long answer is because our currency is fiat money. We do not base the value of the dollar on any commodity (such as gold), and thus have no real use for it. If we were on say the gold standard, then the gold in Fort Knox would play a much different part in our economy.

Is there evidence of collusion to commit fraud between the Department of the Treasury and US Banks?

There are congressional hearings going on, concerning this right now. This is connected with private ownership of the Federal Reserve and its manipulation of the economy and a general lack of oversight in the banking industry. The truly independent banks in this country are under attack. An earlier attack on independent banks occurred when they were FORCED to join the Federal Reserve.

Why would an expansionary gap lead to a change in inflation Why would a recessionary gap lead to a change in inflation?

Assuming that the aggregate demand curve does not move, the only way for the gap to be closed is by a shift in aggregate supply. These gaps cause a change in inflation expectations, moving the AS curve left (exp) or right (rec) back to long term equilibrium and changing the inflation rate.

What is the effect of rate of inflation changes on the value of the firm?

Being that inflation is the decrease in the value of the dollar, it causes most firms to lose real value (they may still grow nominally). There are a few exceptions to this. For instance, if a firm is in a lot of debt, inflation helps them by making their debt smaller.
