400 Meter Dash

Florence Griffith-Joyner, commonly known as Flo Jo, won her 400-meter sprint at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. She not only secured the gold medal in this event but also set a world record time of 47.60 seconds, which still stands today. Her performance was part of a historic Olympic campaign, where she also won gold in the 100 meters and 200 meters.

You normally start a 400m race (outdoor track) at the same place as 800, 1600 and possibly 300; which isn't a common event in outdoor track and field anyway

3.55 is blazing!! only if its done laser timed or another form of FAT timed like off the gun. if its done by hand its still fast but inaccurate. more than likely you mean 30 yards if you ran that time.

You do switch lanes in the 400 meter dash. At my school at the 50 meter mark is when you start to move into lane one and two and by the 100 meter mark you really should be in the lane one or you will be running longer.

Yes, everyone has the same length to run in the 400m dash. The track is staggered so that everyone runs the same length. It might seem like the person on the outside lane is running more because they have a bigger turn, but they have a lead in the beginning because of the stagger.

Indoors it's 2 laps because each lap is 200m. However on an outdoor track it's one lap because each lap is 400m. If you compare the times of the indoor and the outdoor times, you will see that the outdoor times are usually better. Sometimes, it's good to compete in the indoor 400 metres because the weather, doesn't affect significantly what your time will be. In the outdoor, hot weather, rainy weather etc, can affect your time.

To find the stagger of a running track you must first have the lane width, if you don't then find it, and after you get the lane width which is approximately 1.22m meters you multiply it by 2 then by Pi, if you don't know what Pi is it's appro. 3.14 or 22 divided 7, so if the lane width was 1.22 i use the formula, (2 x Pi x lane width), 2 multiplied by 1.22 is 2.44 and then multiplied by Pi (3.14) you get 7.66, so each lane is 7.66 Meters ahead of the other :) HOPE THIS HELPED!

When doing the math, here is the facts that you would need in order to calculate: 1 Mile = 1609.344 Meters(about 4 laps)13mph = 20921.472 meters an hour(about 52 laps, and 121 meters) so 20921.472 meters per 3600 seconds set up a ratio (20921.472/3600) = (400/X) ---> X is how long it would take you to run the 400, in seconds. cross multiply (20921.472 * X) = (3600 * 400) you get (20921.472 X = 1440000) now x = (1440000/20921.472) and you get 68.83s or 1:08.83

it's an okay time but nothing to brag about. like when i was 13, myself and 5 other male 13 year old friends ran the 400 and we got around 4 minutes 5 seconds with very little practice.
