The date on which the U.S. Congress voted in favor of Texas statehood was December 29, 1845. However, the actual transfer of power from the national government, led by President Anson Jones, to the state government, led by Governor James Pinckney Henderson, occurred on February 19, 1846.

August 1, 1987. Previous to this purchase of beer ONLY was legal to those born before August 1, 1968; they were "grandfather claused" in. This means there was a period of time in Ohio where one 19 year old could continue to buy beer, while one born the same year would be denied.

I know this firsthand because I was born July 7, 1968; I was able to buy beer at 19, while several of my friends the exact same age could not.

The Alabama River was named by early European explorers after the Indian tribe that lived in the territory and first appeared in 1540 spelled as "Alibamu", "Alibamo" and even "Limamu" in the journals of the Spanish explorer Hernando DeSoto (c.1500-1542).
