My 79 year old was just diagnoised with Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia (CMML - type 1), I would like to know; 1. is this a type of cancer treated by MD Anderson? 2. Is a Dr. referral needed ? 3. Will you see my mother if all she has is Medicare A & B? Thank you!

I'm not an expert but from my experience I was diagnosed with moderate dysplasia, which eventually got upgraded to severe dysplasia after removal of the cells. The Doctor I saw which performed the small operation told me that it could be hereditary. On speaking to my family, I discovered that my mother, grandmother and auntie all had a similar experience in their 30's too.

What type of checkup? If you are a woman and you need your yearly check up, you see a gynecologist. If it's the rest of your body, a general practitioner is fine.

Whether biting and chewing the side of your mouth can lead to cancer, I hope others will give their input. However, I can see where it might lead to infection (depending how deep). Still, I believe you should be asking yourself why you are biting, tearing, and chewing perfectly good mouth tissue that is there to serve a purpose. It may be just a bad habit, or maybe something that goes deeper. You should consult a health care professional for advice. Anyway you look at it, pulling apart your skin is not a good idea. I'm not saying this to be funny, but out of concern for you.
