How do you build a trapeze bar?
A standard trapeze bar (as used in the majority of flying trapeze acts) is a 3 feet wide and 1" diameter steel bar, usually solid which weighs 5kg (11 lbs) it is usually wrapped in either cotton tape (held in place by double sided tape) or in a coarse tape such as elastoplast. There is a ring welded onto each end of the bar to attach the (usually) 12'6" - 6mm steel cables to it for the swing. A standard trapeze rig is 42 feet long with 26' between catcher & flyer and 16' between flyer and pedistal. The pedistal and flying main bars (crane bars) are rigged at the same height. The catchers crane bar is generally rigged two feet lower. Add this to the fact that the catchers trapeze bar cables are generally around 8'6" long and you have enough space for the flyer to peform his / her tricks in.

Well I think that being a clown means like being goofy, silly. So clowns are called clowns because they are silly.
Not really! Clowning is a very difficult art to perfect just being silly, anyone can do that.
'Clowning is the universally accepted name for it but to be really accurate the 'clown' is the white face character not used very much any more. He is the talented musician and feed. The 'clowns' are really the stooges and the 'Augustes' who are the fall-a-bout acrobats and the laughter makers. Modern clowns who dress too much and have too much (frightening?) make up are not the traditional fall-a-bouts such a Stan Laurel or Chaplin. Ragged costumes and nonsense props are all a part of good slapstick. They should not frighten children!

What does Cecil Day Lewis poem The Circus Lion mean?
The poem is a response to the poem The Passionate Shepherd to His Love by Christopher Marlowe. In a nutshell, this poem is a parody of the Marlowe poem, offering binary opposites for everything that Marlowe offers up in his poem: where Marlowe offers lies, (I will make thee beds of roses", Day-Lewis offers truth "Care on thy maiden brow shall put/a wreath of wrinkles"; the four beat per line tetrameter is even ironically mimicked. The Elizabethan pastoral idyll of TPS is completely opposed by Day-Lewis's 20th century industrial imagery, an imagery which reflects the hardships of the working class man in Britain following the stock market crash in 1929; "chance employment" and "bed and board" being only some of the so-called delights on offer in the between-the-wars period "of peace and plenty." The narrator (again in opposition to the narrator in TPS) loves the character he is speaking to so much, that he is providing them with all the facts of just how difficult life would be with him were they to choose such an avenue. He wants to be truthful to them, even if he risks losing them: "thy foot/Be shod with pain." This is essentially a poem about love flourishing in the face of hardship and potential starvation due to poverty. Day-Lewis is extolling the virtues of a relationship that is based on love and built to last; one that will withstand any hardship, even "hunger" and "death."
