If you have scratches on a wooden table, the easiest way to remove them is to finely sand the area with a soft grade sandpaper, such as 100 grit or higher. Once you've lightly sanded, you can polish the area with a rubbing compound or special oil made for wood surfaces. If the scratches are deep, you may consider filling them with a matching wood putty before sanding, so that the marks are removed and the surface is smooth after sanding and polishing.

Vinegar is good for removing stains on carpet and therefore, you can mix sufficient quantity of vinegar with water. This solution can be ideally used for your DIY carpet cleaning process.

For removing more obstinate stains, you can make use of peroxide or some other good bleaching agents. But, these bleaching agents should be used carefully and in moderate quantities because if used wrongly, they may spoil your carpet.

Steam cleaning is one of the best DIY carpet cleaning options. But, you need not use this procedure frequently. Using them once in six months is ideal.

I have an old farm sink that the enamel is wearing off. Not wanting to use harsh cleaners I looked for the best thing that wouldn't further damage my sink.


Here's what to do


Get a small box of baking soda and make a paste using water (needs to be soupy). Spread it on the area that needs to be cleaned and let it sit there for 20-30 minutes. After that use an abrasive sponge (I used a Dobie) and scrub the surface clean, adding a little water when necessary. The bicarbonate won't harm the surface and it will look pretty good. (Not as good as new but pretty darn close (and white too)!

The rust will likely make the water taste bad when using it, but it is non toxic in small amounts. It is iron. If you eat a LOT of iron (more than 50-100mg a day) you can develop iron toxicity.

People in Northern Minnesota drink well water that is so full of iron it looks red. They do this all their life along with cook on cast iron pans and kettles. They live to be 90 to 100 years old. NO a little rust won't harm you if a lot of rust makes you live longer.

We used Citrus Goo-Gone Pro Power to quickly remove sap from our micro suede sofa cushion. It was available at our local Walmart store. Seemed to work well, and left no stain or damage.

Greasy food is food that is cooked in an oil or butter. Oil and water do not mix, therefore saponification process is necessary that will separate the oil from the fabric, this is accomplished with soap.

I use oxyclean.I make a paste with it and brush it on the stained areas.I soak the linens for two hours,adding extra oxyclean in the machine.Use the hottest water for the fabric,let the machine agitate for a couple of minutes to work the oxy through the fabric.After that,let the machine finish the cycle, then use regular detergent, and run the cycle again.

usually it depends on the table type. when i was 4, i blew out a candle, and knocked it over my bathroom sink area. nobody noticed for a while. when i was 7, i was messing around, and found if you used a paper clip, it gets it off. unfold it, and lightly scrape around, and go all over it, and it comes right off. it did for me!

There are several methods for removing ink from leather - some better than others. First off, ink does not come off easily especially if it has been there for any period of time. If that is the case, have it done by a professional. Also, if it is a suede then it will not come off without marking the leather. If you are going to do it yourself, be very GENTLE - it is very easy to damage leather beyond repair. Very gently rub stained area with a clean white towel using rubbing alcohol/surgical spirit. Let dry completely.

(Wear a professional n95 mask and rubber gloves). Use a straight razor and scrape off as much foil as possible. Get a hold of Mercuric or sulfuric acid. BE CAREFUL not to spill anywhere, work close to a stainless steal sink. Poor a little in a small glass container and bring over stove porcelain surface. Pour the acid onto the foil and wait 3-4 minutes, use paper towel to wipe off the acid, and then a soapy wet rag. Repeat process until all foil is dissolved. Then wash surface thoroughly and repeatedly with a soapy dish towel. Once complete run water in the sink for 5 minutes till any possible remaining accid is flushed from the sink. The foil is gone and the porcelain is preserved. Works great! (Don't breathe the fumes and ventelate the area or move the stove outside)

I prefer Bounty over all the other brands and have for years. I tried cheaper when I was in college to try to save a few cents but all the other brands I tried did not hold up to the spills like Bounty.

When the stain is still fresh, apply white wine. The color begins to disappear and then all you're left with is the wet part of the stain. If the stain is dry, then use a little soap that is safe on the material (I would try Palmolive) and hydrogen peroxide. Spray, dab, or pour the mixture on the stain. Been there done that!

There are a couple of reasons to wash knives separately from other dishes.

One of the reasons is safety. If you have knives in the sink with the other dishes, there is a good chance that you reach in for a dish, and you slide your hand across a blade instead. It could cut you wide open before you even realized it was there.

Another reason is to maintain the quality of your knives. When other items bump into the blades in the sink, it damages the edge. Small dings and chips will dull the knife, as well as make it harder to sharpen.

if you have a self cleaning oven put the grates inside while the oven is cleaning. sometimes you have to set the oven to clean longer but it works great. leave the racks in the oven and place the grates on them. you can also place the metal burners in as well.

I had soot above my fire box on the rock, in the kitchen, and on just about everything plastic in the house. A Magic eraser took care of everything. The rock tore the heck out of the thing, and it took 2 to clean the fireplace rock. I had tried many things and had no luck. Great product. My rock is beige, and I got 99% of the beige back.

we are trying , and this was suggested. works ok but really worked on the soot on the logs.. Heat up your firepalce for about 20 minutes. With the fireplace still ON, spray windex on the logs or rock and watch the soot evaporate! It works!

Coca-cola stains clothes, but not permanently. If the stain is still wet, you can probably remove it by blotting it up and then blotting it with water. Once the stain has dried, pretreat it and throw it in the washer on a hot cycle.
