Can you use a aed on a infant or child?
The AED can be used on a child if the child pads are available. Currently, the AED is not set up for infant use.
Can you use and aed on a person who has a pace maker?
Yes you can; don't put the pad though on top of the pacemaker. Adjust pad as necessary.
How do you perform chest compression on an infant?
2 finger if alsone thumb encircling with 2nd rescuers
Gently tilt the casualty's head by applying downward pressure on the forehead while gently lifting the chin upward.
What is the worst thing you can do in an emergency?
Not call for help and doing something to make the emergency worse.
A. Rushing in without checking for safety:
1. Personal safety - use latex gloves to protect against infectious diseases like HIV and Hepatitis. (if gloves are not available plastic bags or condoms can be used)
2. Environmental Safety - make sure the emergency scene is safe, if not don't take any chances.
3. Victim Safety - treat the victim in the position found and only move the victim if the danger cannot be removed.
B. Don't forget to call for Emergency Services.
C. Only do what you have been trained to do and nothing more - Legalities
What are the four steps to the cardiac chain of survival?
There are six steps in the chain of survival.
The first and most important step is Prevention. This includes eating a healthy diet and doing regular exercise.
The second step is Early Recognition. Recognising symptoms and signs is an very crucial part in the chain of survival.
The third step is Early Access to Emergency Services. This means getting the patient to hospital as sson as possible.
The fourth step is Early Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Early effective CPR is necesary to increase the patient's rate of survival.
The fifth steo is Early Defibrillation. Attach an Automated External Defibrillator as soon as readily available and you have been trained to do so.
The final step which is undertaken in a hospital cardiac centre is Early Advanced Cardiac Care. This is care given by a cardiologist or cardiac surgeon at a hospital.
If Properly performed how long can CPR sustain life for?
Should compressions on the sternum should be administered on a person whose heart is beating?
If you can feel a carotid pulse, you should not perform chest compressions.
What injuries would prevent you from doing CPR?
You have to be prepared to injure. cracked ribs are a commonly accepted risk but preferable to the alternative.
How you and a second rescuer can give CPR to an adult victim together?
One rescuer will give 30 compressions and the other rescuer will give 2 breaths. When the rescuer giving compressions gets tires and wants to change, on the last compression instead of saying 30 he/she says change. The 2 breaths are given, the rescuers stay on the same side of the patient, and move positions for the change. CPR then continues with the 30 compressions, then 2 breaths repeated until the next change is called for.
What do you do with medical patches before using aed?
Remove the patches before applying the AED pads.
What is the rate to give breaths in ACLS?
One breath every 5 seconds for an adult, 1 breath every 3 seconds for an Infant & Child.
Before delivering a shock with an aed to a child you should?
Make sure everyone is clear of the patient.
Why is it important to be sure no one is touching or moving the victim while the AED is analyzing?
The body is based on electrochemical responses, when a body is moved during the analyzing phase this can induce incorrect information and the AED could take the wrong course of action. Last thing you want to do is have the unit discharge when it doesn't need to, this could lead to serious injury for the casualty.
What parts are being simulated during CPR?
The breathing is simulated by giving breaths and the heart beat is simulated by giving chest compressions.
When CPR is in progress and the AED pads have been attached to the victim the rescuers should?
Some AEDs after the pads are attached you plug in the pads before the AED will analyze; some the pads are attached to the AED and you need to push the analyze button. At this point, do not touch the patient. So, the best answer to me is "the rescuers should make sure the AED is analyzing and do not touch the patient".
CPR is not meant to revive someone. It is used when there is no pulse or there is an insufficient pules. CPR can help save a life, because it will help supply temporary oxygen and blood flow. If received early enough a victim is more likely to survive. It will also help reduce the damage to the brain and other organs, because the organs will still have oxygen and blood flow.
What is the latest CPR procedures in medical terms?
I am not sure what exactly you are asking. I have attached the link to the AHA ECC & CPR 2005 guidelines for your reference. These guidelines updated CPR to the latest techniques.
What does 5.11 stand for in compression ratio?
Nothing. Compression ratio is usually displayed as 9:1, or 9 to 1.
CPR steps you follow in an emergency are performed in the following order?
Perform CPR steps in the following order:
Adult CPR
1. Survey the scene for safety
2. If safe, enter the scene
3. Check the victim for consciousness (tap and shout)
4. If no response, call 911 or the local emergency number (or have someone else call)
5. Tip the head (using the head tilt chin lift method)
6. Check for signs of life (look, listen, feel) for 10 seconds maximum
7. If no signs of life, give 2 breaths
8. Start CPR; 30 Compressions : 2 Breaths
9. Continue CPR until:
a. An AED becomes available to hook up to the victim
b. More advanced medical personnel take over
c. The scene becomes unsafe (get yourself & the victim to safe environment)
d. The victim shows signs of life
e. You are too tired to continue
it depends, i am a life guard and an EMT and i get my cert for free because of that but unless you are in a job or organization that covers it you have to pay to take the class and become certified. My mother works for a school and she was able to get certified for free because the school recommended it and there by covered the cost but if you have no organization or job that will cover it you cant just go some where for free you have to pay to have the class and then become certified afterwords
How can you maximize blood flow to the brain during CPR?
During CPR you as the first aider are acting as the pump for the patient as their heart is not functioning correctly.
To ensure CPR is effective, you need to make sure you are pressing down in the correct position (centre of the chest in line with the nipples) and to the correct depth (about 4-5cm for an adult) and at the correct rate (about 100/minute)
