Is cracking considered more dangerous than hacking because damage is caused?

ANY unauthorised access to another computer - is a criminal offense. The type of intrusion can range from simply locking the computer - to wiping out the whole hard drive. So-called 'hackers' never consider that the actions they do could ultimately kill someone ! They just think it's funny that they're causing mayhem !

Are there places were it is legal to post graffiti?

There are rare instances when a wall of a building is open to spray can art. The taggers, bombers, schemers, or whatever they are being called this month usually don't show up, however. That's because the art of a schemer is "different" that that of a spary can artist who puts work up on large surfaces. It's unfortunate that the talents of the bomber can't be displayed more often. Their work is generally smaller and less "functional" than, say, a mural or scene painted on the side of a structure. Some of the "posts" on things like subway cars and on stationary objects are quite good and reflect uncommon ability. But there are a number of things that inhibit the graffiti artist. One is that this person will often have his efforts lumped in with the simple crap that gang members post to mark turf. 'Nuf said there. Local codes and ordinances are pretty restrictive. And part of the motivation of someone who wants to scheme a bunch of the aforementioned subway cars in hopes of going "all city" to display his work is the thrill of the act. It's illegal. And knowingly and deliberately breaking the law bring heightened feelings to many, if not most people. The artist gets a rush sneaking into a yard and laying up schemes on a few cars and then making a break for it. Another idea is that the tag is "living art" and is painted over, either all or in part, in a perpetual display of evolving visual stimulation - or visual noise, if you look at it this way. The bottom line, to be more direct, is that there aren't a lot of places in or near urban areas where graffiti is welcome. It is only rarely that those who practice this art form have a legit canvas, like someone's old car or garage door. As an alternative, develop skills and abilities in the art, and then move on to spray painting murals or other displays. By having some skills so the piece looks "good" when you're done, you might be able to go around and convince some local folks to let you scheme their old truck or mailbox or whatever. That's about the best that can be hoped for. Good luck finding patrons of your art form.

What is the definition of local area network?

A Local Area Network (LAN) is any two or more computers connected together for the purpose of sharing resources.

In order to have networking work there are four requirements:

1. Phycical Connection between the two machines. (cables, fiber, wireless, etc.)

2. A Protocol (language) that both machines understand, usually TCP/IP.

3. A server process running on the machine that has the resource to be shared, like a printer or some files. Server processes can be running on all machines.

4. The proper client process running on the machine that wants to use the resource. Client processes can run on all machines.

Networking is divided into two worlds: Public and Private.

The Public network is the Internet and best known as WWW.xx.com. These www.xx.com names are DOMAIN Names registered with an official registrar and assigned Public IP Addresses.

The Private world is any network ip address which is not public and they are assigned IP addresses like

  • 192.168.x.x
  • 172.16.x.x
  • 10.x.x.x

We create a LAN (Local Area Network) when our router assigns any of the above addresses to the systems which are connected to it.

The Private (LAN) addresses are not accessible to the Public systems and provide a measure of security to all attached systems.

--A computer network that spans a relatively small area. Most LANs( Local Area Network) are confined to a single building or group of buildings. However, one LAN( Local Area Network) can be connected to other LANs over any distance via telephone lines and radio waves. A system of LANs connected in this way is called a wide-area network (WAN).

Most LANs connect workstations and personal computers. Each node (individual computer ) in a LAN has its own CPU with which it executes programs, but it also is able to access data and devices anywhere on the LAN. This means that many users can share expensive devices, such as laser printers, as well as data. Users can also use the LAN to communicate with each other, by sending e-mail or engaging in chat sessions.

There are many different types of LANs Ethernets being the most common for PCs. Most Apple Macintosh networks are based on Apple's AppleTalk network system, which is built into Macintosh computers.

The following characteristics differentiate one LAN from another:

# topology : The geometric arrangement of devices on the network. For example, devices can be arranged in a ring or in a straight line.

# protocols : The rules and encoding specifications for sending data. The protocols also determine whether the network uses a peer-to-peer or client/server architecture.

# media : Devices can be connected by twisted-pair wire, coaxial cables, or fiber optic cables. Some networks do without connecting media altogether, communicating instead via radio waves.

LANs are capable of transmitting data at very fast rates, much faster than data can be transmitted over a telephone line; but the distances are limited, and there is also a limit on the number of computers that can be attached to a single LAN.

:

The Local Area Network (LAN) is by far the most common type of data network. As the name suggests, a LAN serves a local area (typically the area of a floor of a building, but in some cases spanning a distance of several kilometers). Typical installations are in industrial plants, office buildings, college or university campuses, or similar locations. In these locations, it is feasible for the owning Organisation to install high quality, high-speed communication links interconnecting nodes. Typical data transmission speeds are one to 100 megabits per second.

What is the subnet address when ip address is 142.80.119.128?

The subnet Mask I presume you mean.

There is no single SET subnet mask for any IP

The subnet mask for most general home networks is 255.255.255.0

The subnet mask is identified by the third set of numbers in the IP address when converted to binary.

Can Activity based Costing be used for an IT Company like Infosys Wipro?

In a simple answer, yes. Activity based costing can be a valuable tool for any environment that either makes something (manufacturing) or delivers something (service - such as IT outsourcing). One option would be to use driver data mapping services to specific customers to calculate "actual" cost estimates by service by customer in addition to tradional "activity" analysis.
