It can't really. It is too big and would cost too much. Even if work stared to be done to remove the debris from the collection, there are countless tiny bits of plastic that the sun has broken down (but not completely). It would take MANY generations to get it cleaned. Then it would take a continuous effort on everyone to keep it clean beacause of the currents that pull the debris from the shores and rivers to that location. Everyday, more trash is being collected there and it doesn't leave unless an animal takes it away. Then, there is the problem that what would you do with what is being taken out. I'm not saying that it should be left there but really, who is going to put that much time, money, and effort into it. Most people in the U.S. don't even know about it.

A consequence of land pollution is the destruction of the soil by using chemical fertilizers and pesticides which will enter into the food chain effecting agriculture. Land pollution can also extinct species due to habitat fragmentation and habitat destruction.

In healthcare, waste disposal procedures differ somewhat depending on whether the patient lives at home or in an institution (hospital / nursing home) and whether there is currently an infection as well.

Home Waste Disposal

Common sense measures usually prevail when a person is at home. For examples, patients should place used tissues in a waste basket. Washcloths, towels, and bedding should be laid flat if wet to prevent mildew, and laundered in warm to hot water. Garbage should be placed in containers (with well-fitting lids) outside the house until trash pick-up. A diabetic should use a sharps container for needle disposal; most County Health Departments can arrange for disposal of a sharps container as medical waste.

Personnel should use proper handwashing and gloving, especially when handling anything contaminated with human waste or blood. Double-bag old dressings, etc. If there is an acute infection or infected wound, all persons should use sterile dressing techniques (mask, gown, glove) and double-bag all used items for the trash.

Hospitals, Nursing Homes

Again, common sense measures come first: handwashing, using gloves, etc. Personnel should know the proper way to remove used gloves. All used items should be immediately put in the trash or sent for laundering. Some institutions still use auto-claves to sterilize tools but most places use individual packs that can hold used items before being put in the trash. Most trash placement for equipment (disposable tweezers, scissors, etc) is placed in a separate room, not at bedside.

People/ships/governments who dispose of trash into the ocean seem to believe in thiat motto.

However trash in the ocean floats around for years.. Especially plastic waste. It builds up into unsightly floating garbage dumps which are a hazard to sea life and can contaminate the water.

Trash which sinks can cover fish spawning beds and change the ecology f the ocean floor.

All in all its like having a restaurant have dogs like the plates clean between diners - after all what they don't know won't hurt them wait yes it will.

To some degree, the conservation efforts depend upon the specific society you are asking about. In desert regions, you may find local ordinances against watering lawns or planting water-intensive landscaping plants - this is in place in Las Vegas, Nevada currently. Other places work to recycle "gray water" - water that is clean but is not treated to the standards of drinking water; it is often used as toilet water or watering the landscape.

As an individual, you can make choices such as limiting or eliminating watering of your lawn, reducing water consumption in your home such as with water-conserving appliances and by being aware of how your actions impact water useage.

Good to bring this subject up. It is never bad to go over this again. Plastic is a very good contribution to society. Plastics make life safer for all of us. Hospitals use it on minutes basis because of higyene.

The very same thing that was made to protect us, would work in the opposite direction if not disposed of safely. The composition of plastic makes it durable to the environment when discarted. It kills marine life and can make trash last longer on land.

Recycling requires less energy and water input than producing plant matter to make biodegradable/compostable stuff. Also, look carefully at your bioplastics- they are recyclable, too (but be sure you know what numbers of plastic your area takes). I seem to remember, though, that after beign recycled a number of times, materials gradually degrade. So the best solution is to recycle everything, but make it biodegradable so that when it can no longer be recycle, it can be safely (and usefully) disposed of. Granted, this would require you (or the recycling plant) to know (either by labeling or otherwise) how degraded materials they receive are, and to sort them accordingly.

INCINERATION OF MEDICAL WASTES Yes, you are right. Incineration is one of the options for disposal of medical waste and it is being implemented now a days. In my city, Coimbatore in TamilNadu/India, major hospitals are disposing their medical wastes in an incineration plant put up exclusively for this purpose since municipal corporation denied to collect and dispose the medical wastes generated in private hospitals. All that required attention in the incineration process is not to pollute air!

the sewage plant works by having a primary treatment that help take out all of the excess oil and trash that goes into it then comes the secondary treatment that they put chloride in it to kill all the bacteria or another way putting it into a zone layer which acts like a dienfactant torwards bacteria and last it might be transffered to the river, lake, or stream and after that it goes to your homes!

The alcoholic drinks can affect the environment if the glass or plastic bottle that it was in is discarded as litter. It makes places look ugly and can damage wildlife (whether or not it's in an urban area).

The process by which its made may also affect the environment by releasing toxic chemicals.
