You're dealing with a very complex question. When we are born we are iike a blank sheet of paper waiting to be written on. To extend the metaphor, the things we learn from our elders, siblings, and friends, are as the writings on the blank sheet of paper. Slowly, all of these bits of learning are inculcated into our psyche, and for better or worse form part of our personality.

So if you learn at your daddy's knee when you're young and impressionable, that all blacks are dangerous criminals who are slow and lazy; then you'll tend to take as gospel that this segment of society are undesirables. And when you grow up and have children you'll likely pass on these little gems of wisdom to your offspring. etc. etc.

This is bolstered in some people who feel inadequate, and need to step on others in order to make themselves feel superior.

Pretty soon, one begins to see that regardless of some minor differences, people are basically the same with the same wants and needs as oneself.
