Why are car radio antenna's vertical?

It's called polarization and it relates to the orientation of the transmitting antenna. If the transmitting antenna is vertical, the majority of the transmitted energy is vertically polarized so it stands to reason that to pick up the most signal the receiving antenna should be the same way.

In a moving auto though more is now understood about the propagation path the signal takes before it actually gets to the moving radio. The signal isn't line of sight but takes a lot of reflective paths before it actually gets to the antenna. The signals are reflected so many times that polarization is altered and can be any direction by the time it gets to the car receiver.

Radio stations get around this anomaly by circularly polarizing the signal at the transmitting antenna. Many car antennas are now embedded in the glass windows instead of wire whips formally mounted to the fenders.

Trace a radio broadcast from the radio station transmitter to your ear?

Power from the final power amplifier stage of the transmitter ==> out the transmission line ==>

either up the tower to the antenna, or to the base of the tower when the tower is the antenna.

Then from the antenna out into space, in the form of electromagnetic radiation.

A tiny, infinitesimal fraction of the energy is intercepted by my antenna, where it induces a small

RF current. The current flows down my transmission line, through a coil in my radio, to ground.

On its way down toward ground, I use the RF current to control an amplifier stage in the front end

of my radio, where a copy of the signal is created at a much higher power level ... something that's

loud enough for the rest of the radio to work with.

The copy is combined with a local oscillator in a non-linear stage, where all of the sum-and-difference

frequencies among the local oscillator frequency, the radio station's carrier and sideband frequencies

are generated.

The narrow bundle of frequencies centered at the radio's preferred IF frequency is selected to

survive, and everything else is flushed to ground. The preferred IF frequency was created by

carefully controlling the frequency of that local oscillator in the last paragraph.

The IF bundle is amplified a few times, then it's ready for "detection". It's passed through another

non-linear stage where sums and differences of frequencies are generated, but this time, there is

no local oscillator. The sums and differences are just the mixtures of the various frequencies

present in the IF bundle. One of those products is the (carrier frequency) minus the (sideband

frequency) ... which is just a copy of the announcer's voice. This mix-product is selected to survive,

and all the rest are again flushed to ground.

Now the audio is amplified a couple of times, and it's finally ready for the ear-buds or the loudspeaker.

Radio waves carry a blank from a station to your home?

The signal is transmitted by way of electromagnetic radiation, the same type of energy that, within the visible spectrum, makes up light. The signal can maintain an analog profile, or the signal can be transmitted digitally, but the energy form is the same. However it is transmitted, the radio converts the signal to sound by way of the speaker elements to your ear.

How do you set clock on barolo radio controlled weather station?

I've managed to get two of these Barolo clocks set now. As with many such clocks they are actually set by a radio signal from an atomic clock source such as the one in Colorado for those in the States. Basically you put a fresh battery in it, push or select the time zone your in and wait for the clock to receive the signal from the time source. The ones I've gotten to work ran quickly to either 4, 8, or 12 and then paused until they got the radio signal. Many such clocks seem to only get an update signal after sitting overnight. Placing the clock near a window that faces Colorado (or your nearest real atomic clock) may help.

Why do people steal car radios?

Because they're selfish and think they have a right to everything. If it doesn't belong to you, please don't take it. God loves you so don't do it.

They need quick cash. For what they actually get for the radio, you would gladly pay them to get it back.

Car radios are easily sold on. They are not stolen for personal use, but for the pittance they can get for it. All they need is the cash for their next drugs fix.

It doesent matter about the real value of the item and what they damage, wreck, injure, mutilate or even kill, in their single minded quest, to gratify their self imposed addiction.

How do radio waves be used to determine the position of icebergs at sea?

Pretend there is a patient and the doctors need to see deep into his body, in a safe way. To start off, they use the MRI, which uses the radio waves to construct a computer image (of the tissue, they are looking at). The MRI device sends a short bursts of radio waves into the paitients body. The radio waves energize atoms (energize the patients particles inside his body)and make them line up. When the radio pulses are turned off the atoms return to there original position and the radio waves return to the machine (when the radio waves come back to the machine or when they return, the machine now has the picture of the tissue).

It is kind of like a delivery man or getting your picture taken. For example, the delivery man... at first it is like a shock you get mail, then when it is done the delivery man leaves. He goes and deliveries it to someone else. So, then that person just recieved whatever you sent. Just like the machine, the machine just got whatever the radio waves gave it... the picture of the tissue.

What frequency should a radio station have of its wave are to have wavelength of 200m?

Well, honey, if the wavelength is 200m, then the frequency of the radio station should be around 1.5 MHz. Just plug that bad boy into the formula f = c/λ, where c is the speed of light (approximately 3 x 10^8 m/s). Math doesn't lie, darling!

How do you remove the radio in your 2003 Lincoln navigator?

Do yourself a favor. If you are planning to install an aftermarket radio, buy yourself a radio wiring hardness that will fit into the factory wiring hardness. It will cost under $20.00. And it will save you lost of headaches in the future. No short, or problems... _____________________________________________________________Remove Stock Ford RadioTools Needed To remove the radio you will need a "Radio Removal Tool". This is a "U" shaped pin with a dent at the end. This can be commonly found at auto parts stores or, WalMart, etc (widely available for $3-$4). The radio has two holes in each end (four holes total) · Insert the removal tool into the holes on each side (This will release the catches holding the radio into the dash) · Slide the radio toward you The Related links below gives instructions for radio removal and includes photos You can also make your own removing tool from a wire coat hanger: cut 2 U-shaped pieces (about 8" each) and insert them into the 2 holes in the front of your head unit; using a sideways motion and pulling towards you will do the trick, just be carefull when inserting the tool to not scratch the finish on the unit. I tried the wire hangar solution but went and bought the tool anyway. Either would probably work, but the tool is a bit more sturdy / stiff. Here are the instructions that come with the tool: * Disconnect negative battery wire * Insert the removal tool into the holes on either side of the faceplate * Push the tools forward about 1 inch until the retaining clips are released Grasp the tools tightly and pull apart slightly as you pull the unit from the dash.

What are the differences between a radio and a TV?

Well, the main difference is that a radio doesn't have video. Only audio. Another difference is the programming in most cases. In the early days of radio, they had several shows in different genres that people would tune into weekly, sort of like shows that we watch on Television now. Now, though, that is rare. Radio is mostly music-only or discussion-only fare, and has lost some of the appeal that there was in its other programming. Television has taken over most of the weekly shows and stories. Another difference is portability. It would distract a driver too much to watch television while driving, but radio is good. It is easier to take a radio along with you while traveling than it is a TV.
