How do you repel black rat snake?

To discourage them from taking up residence on your property, start by eliminating their desired environments. Make sure your lawn is mowed and not overgrown with high weeds. Cut back overgrowth. Keep log piles and compost heaps a safe distance from your house. Use wire mesh fences at ground level around crawl spaces or your garden to keep snakes out of those places. Reducing the rodent population which is their main food supply will also send them elsewhere to eat. If you still find one slithering across your lawn, call the local Animal Control people to come remove it from your property.

There are many different varieties of black-and-red-striped snakes; most infamously, the Coral snake vs. the Milk snake. Though they look nearly identical at first glance, one is deadly, and one is harmless. There is a little poem to help you remember the difference between the two.

How can you tell if a venomous snake isn't venomous?

Yes, you can. The simple way is to look at the snake. A venomous snake generally has a neck and then the head. The head is usually diamond shaped and you can see where the head and body are different. A non venomous snake has one long line from the body to the head. One reason there is a difference is the poison sacks in the venomous snake create the look of a neck and the head is more pointed than round because of the fangs.
