The Canary Islands (Spanish Islas Canarias ) (28 06'N, 15 24'W) are an archipelago of the Kingdom of Spain consisting of seven islands of volcanic origin in the Atlantic Ocean. They are located off the north-western coast of Africa (Morocco and the Western Sahara). They form an autonomous community of Spain. The name derives probably from a north African tribe (the Canarii) or possibly the Latin term Insularia Canaria meaning Island of the Dogs, a name applied originally only to the island of Gran Canaria. It is thought that the dense population of an endemic breed of large and fierce dogs was the characteristic that most struck the few ancient Romans who established contact with the islands by the sea.
The islands and their capitals are:
* Gran Canaria (capital Las Palmas de Gran Canaria);
* Tenerife (capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife);

Why do people lose sexual interest in a committed relationship?
Nothing is written in stone, and there are no guarantees what will happen between two people. Some people have a high capacity for sex, yet others don't and do quite well by having a rewarding career or doing something they love. Sex believe it or not is on the low scale of what makes a good relationship work. When we're younger we are at our sexual peaks. Even when young and you settle into marriage and have children it's difficult to have that extra energy at times. There are many phases of life a married couple will go through. When you first meet it's like rockets have gone off, your sex life is great and usually on tract and it's fun, fun, fun and little responsibility at the time. Youth is the time for experimentation (hopefully for the best) dating, and waiting for that special someone to come along. It's time to explore and see other parts of the world if you want, or go for a career. Youth is here and gone in the blink of an eye. Then the a young couple get married and all is well. They usually both work and before you know it the reality of life sucks the very life out of you. In some cases it's like the couple are two ships passing in the night and they often forget they need some time out for each other. Problems can arise from this and unless communication is at the top of their list often marriages will fall apart before their very eyes and they have no idea why. A wife and husband should be at the top of the list before anything else and of course, later, that includes children. Then the young couple have children. The first one isn't that bad, but then if you have two or 3, mix that with working, or even the stay-at-home moms, housework, running to doctors, sports games for the kids, meetings with teachers, etc., etc., (it makes me exhausted just writing about it) the mother is exhausted, the husband may be working long hours to support his wife and children and both collapse into bed. Men always want to have sex and sometimes it doesn't matter how tired he is. Men can shut-off part of their daily life, while women simply can't. They worry about their children, husband and when they get a chance themselves. Face it ... women are the guardians of the home and usually keep the social scene going. Suddenly, the last child is out of the house and there sits the wife and husband staring at each other wondering "what happened? Who are you and for that matter, who am I." This is the true test for a good marriage because it's time to sit down and communicate and to express what the other feels. Often mother's whose children leave home have what they call "the empty nest syndrome" because they have spent a great deal of their lives looking after those children, and now, they sit idly by as their children reach out for their own independence and a future. It's going to take the man and wife to communicate very well and set a plan for the rest of their lives. There are good sides to this because soon, there will be grandchildren involved. The wife goes through peri-menopause and menopause and it's hard on women. They have hot/cold flashes, they get irritable and cranky, they bloat up one day and are normal the next. They love their husbands one day and also hate them the same day. Their hormones do a real number on them and what is left for a woman? Go on Hormone Replacement which is considered not good for women and causes breast cancer, heart problems and blood clots especially in the legs. This in itself is a war each woman must face on her own (mentally). Some women are lucky and have few side effects, but for most women I know it can be a real rough trip. Then menopause comes and there are no more periods and some women mourn the fact they can no longer have children even if they never planned to have more. They begin to feel old and unattractive and that the end of their lives is coming up fast and furiously. If a woman is smart she would see this as the beginning of her life and take this opportunity to do the things she never had the chance to do. Men also go through male menopause and although not as complicated as a womans, men can feel old and just like women could have an affair to prove to themselves they still have their youth. Many men/women don't. Males can become cranky, irritable, have hot flashes, become lethargic and depressed. The husband and wife again have to work themselves through this rough patch in their marriage. Each of us are individuals and there could be many reasons why people lose their interest in sex. They could have been abused, raped, have a disease that incapacitates them and even many medications can cause the lack of interest in sex. SSRIs (used for depression in all ages) and heart meds are two of the very few that can cause the lack of interest in sex. Diabetes is another disease and particularly hard on men suffering from this disease. Hope this doesn't scare you off. If you look back on your life now and all the things that happened to you, you would have never believe any of it if someone told you years ago exactly what would happen to you. You'd probably become depressed. Humans are incredible and they can be happy, but also tolerate some of the worst events in their lives. They grow stronger in most cases and not weaker. They can endure many hardships, but instead of sitting idly by and feeling sorry for themselves they can do something to not only help themself, but others and thus, we forget the pain we feel inside because we are simply too busy. Fortunately, the laughter is far greater than the pain and we have total control as to how much laughter we want in our lives. Marcy
