What is biggest lake in Spain?

It is very difficult to find a list of "lakes" in Spain. What they claim as the largest lake in Spain they describe as a "natural lacustrine system".

According to Dictionary.com lacustrine is "Relating to a system of inland wetlands and deep-water habitats associated with freshwater lakes and reservoirs, characterized by the absence of trees, shrubs, or emergent vegetation." I wouldn't call that a lake. It appears to be a collection of bodies of open water surrounded by wetlands and connected by some kind of stream, or maybe just connected by a wetland.

Anyway, the largest "Lake" (sistema lacustre) is called Lago de Sanabria y Alredadores. It is 22,365 hectares (83.6 square miles).

See related link. The first sentence under the section "Situacion geografica" states that Lake Sanabria consists of the natural lacustrine system with the largest dimensions that exists in Spain (constituye el sistema lacustre natural de mayores dimensiones existente en España).

Spain does have some nice sized impoundments behind dams.

I still have trouble calling it a lake. I live in Michigan, USA. We know what a lake is. We have the Great Lakes and several thousands more. But then we don't have girls as good looking as the Spanish girls either.

Win some, lose some.
