How do you stain paper with tea?

Dyeing with tea (also known as tea staining) is pretty straight forward.

Cottons, silks, linens and other natural fibers tend to take the colour better than synthetics or synthetic blends. The kind of tea will also very the colour so do a patch test first.

The fabric to be dyed is washed and rinsed (to remove sizing etc.) and placed into a vat of a very strong tea infusion (6-8 tea bags per quart of boiling water, steep 45 minutes) from which the tea bags have been removed. I have always simmered the fabric for 10 to 20 minutes over low heat (Only if the fabric can be laundered in hot water), checking often to see how dark the colour has become (remember the tea stained fabric will look darker when wet).

Once the colour depth has been reached, remove the fabric and rinse with cool water until the rinse water remains clear. Lay flat to dry or tumble dry in a cool drier if the fabric can be machine dried. I tend to iron the fabric (if it can be ironed) once it is dry to "set" the colour a bit more, but that isn't always necessary.

What differentiates Wegmans Food Market from other grocery stores?

Wegmans is way ahead of all its competitors because of the total experience it offers during each shopping trip. I think the main thing is the lighting. Instead of surgical flourescent lighting like most stores (Harris Teeter), Wegmans offers lighting that, while still easy to see, would be okay for a get together with friends. Also, their generic brand and fresh products they make are excellent. The way the products are packaged and marketed too, make for a visually stimulating shopping experience. Everything is so innovative. Also, while the prices aren't as low as Walmart, you don't feel like you are getting ripped off. You feel like you are paying the right price for a good product. I don't live near a Wegmans currently, but on a recent trip I stopped into one, I just happened upon something as simple as Wegmans BBQ sauce, the ingredients contain real sugar, not HFCS, which every other generic and name-brand sauce contains. So just little details like that, plus the fact that they try and stock local products and produce much more than any other chain I have ever been too.

Another thing that differentiates Wegmans from other grocery stores is their outstanding selection of loose-leaf teas. Not only is Wegmans unusual in that it sells bulk tea by weight in a self-serve section, but their teas are unparalleled in price and quality, and even hold their own against many specialty tea retailers.

What is another name for antioxidants found in tea?

There are many antioxidants in tea, and they have many names, depending on how specific you want to get. The antioxidants are all a type of flavonoid, which are also classified as polyphenols. Green and white tea are richest in catechins, a class of chemicals which include epicatechin (EC), epigallocatechin (EGC), epicatechin gallate (ECG), and epigallocatechin gallate.

Black tea, oolong tea, and other oxidized teas contain catechins as well, but some of these chemicals have been converted to other antioxidants, called theaflavins and thearubigins. These antioxidants are also called tannins, and are responsible for the dark color of black tea.

Herbal tea contains other antioxidants, and generally does not contain catechins. However, it does still contain polyphenols (which are a broader class of chemicals).
