Name of the Indians known as the cat people?
Probably or possibly the Iroquois from the word Erie meaning log tail or cat people.
------
I did a little digging and can't find a reference for the Iroquois and any relation to 'cat people.' The closest I can find is the Aztec belief of the Jaguar, and Jaguar Warriors. Some of their very early (more Mayan) beliefs surrounded a "were-cat" or "were-jaguar" and that is the closest I can find.
------
There was an all-female tribe in Africa that called themselves the Cat People and used paint to make themselves look more feline.
The striped skunk is Mephitis mephitis - Skunks are not weasels
This question in incorrect - weasels are in the familyMustelidae of the orderCarnivora. (If this question is being asked for a school assignment - please notify your educators that they are wrong)
Skunks are in the family Mephitidae (skunks and stink badgers) of the order Carnivora Suborder: Caniformia Family: Mephitidae Genus: Mephitis Species: Mephitis mephitis is the striped skunk Note: Skunks used to be considered a subfamily (Mephitinae) within Mustelidae, recent molecular evidence indicates that skunks do not lie within the mustelid group and should be recognized as a single family Refer to links below for verification of the skunk family
You are thinking of the striped skunk, Mephitis mephitis. The word "skunk"comes from many different Algonquian languages: Pequot squnck, Ojibwe shi-kaug or shegaug, Abenaki seganku and others.
It is conjectured that the first element may mean "urinate" (Abenaki segudi, Natick sagketog) and the second element may be "fox" (Pequot wonkqussis), but perhaps the word is older than any of these languages.
Skunks, however, are neither weasels nor foxes.
What did the Algonquian tribe follow?
There is no such thing as the Algonquian tribe. The term Algonquian applies to a very large family of distantly-related languages spoken by tribes across the entire North American continent. So, for example, the Arapaho (who spoke an Algonquian language) lived on the Great Plains and lived entirely different lifestyles to the Powhatan (another Algonquian-speaking group) who lived in the tidewater areas of Virginia.
Did Algonquin Indians own Manhattan?
The concept of owning land was a foreign idea to most North American native peoples. They might use an area or hunt animalson it but did not own it.Europeans thought of land as a thing that could be bought and owned, not responsibly shared.
As a consequence they "bought" the land expecting the natives to move away because it was no longer theirs.
How does the Algonquian houses look like from the inside?
Inside an Algonquian house, typically a wigwam or longhouse, the space is organized around a central hearth used for cooking and warmth. The interior is often lined with mats made from reeds or animal hides, providing seating and sleeping areas. The walls may be adorned with tools, weapons, and personal items, reflecting the household's daily life and culture. Overall, the interior is functional and communal, designed to accommodate the family's needs and foster social interaction.
What did algonquins use as traps?
The Algonquin tribe of the Ottawa River valley in Ontario and Quebec, Canada hunted deer using "funnel traps" and "noose traps", among other methods.
Both of these techniques were illustrated by early French explorers (see link below for an image).
The funnel trap consisted of a system of fences (probably not as professional as those in the drawing) which led deer into a narrow funnel and then a corral where they could easily be speared or shot with arrows. The noose trap consisted of a rope with a noose tied at one end with a slipknot; the other end of the rope was tied to a bent-over sapling. As the deer stepped on the noose, the sapling was released, hoisting the deer into the air with its leg caught in the noose.
It is likely that the Algonquin also used the funnel trap underwater in lakes and rivers for catching fish and eels.

Where did the algonquins live?
Many people are confused about the meanings of the words "Algonquin" and "Algonquian".
The Algonquin tribe, also called Algonkin, Anishinaabe or Omà miwininiwak, live today where they have always lived - along the Ottawa river valley between Quebec and Ontario in Canada.
Many other tribes in the USA and Canada speak languages which are classed as Algonquian (meaning "like Algonquin"). They lived across most of North America; the Blackfoot, Arapaho and Cheyenne of the Great Plains all spoke Algonquian languages, so did the Powhatan, Secotan and Pamunkey of Virginia, the Delawares, the Shawnees, the Ojibwe/Chippewa, the Cree, The Montagnais, Abenaki, Penobscot and Mi'kmaq, the Menomini, Sauk and Fox and very many other tribes.
So it is not possible to say that the Algonquian people lived in any one place - they were many tribes living across many thousands of square miles of territory.

These include the Blackfoot, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Sauk and Fox, Illinois, Miami, Ojibwe, Cree, Shawnee, Delaware, Abenaki, Mahican, Mohegan, Pequot, Wampanoag, Powhatan and many more.
The word Algonquian means "like the Algonkin tribe", since they have been chosen as a typical representative of this large language group.
