How can you distinguish rosacea from allergies?

rosacea is a constent thing , unlike alergies that come and go. rosacea is a hormone issue and is usully not caused by anything but sun and heat.

Rosacea can look like allergies, but there is a fairly specific group of causes. Causes include heat, spicy food, alcohol, sexual excitement, exposure to cold air, exposure to dry air or windy weather on a bare face. Normally, Rosacea is seen as flushing on the cheeks, nose and/or chin. For me, I can sometimes get what looks like hives on my face that is caused by the rosacea -- I can usually tell it's rosacea because the red bumps are pusless. Since I seem to have facial "allergic dermatitis" as well, I'm not always certain what causes the hives. I do know that if I drink alcohol, I usually get flushed and sometimes very hot in my face -- that is rosacea, not an allergy. Consult a dermatologist, I use a topical antibiotic called Metrogel that usually will alleviate the rosacea symptoms. I also use another topical cream for the allergies.

Can you be allergic to sperm when its on your skin?

It is possible to have a reaction to semen. Typically the allergy is to a protein or proteins within the ejaculate. There can be both localized or systemic reactions.

It is not known how common this is, but there is treatment available. The most common and simple treatment is to always use condoms during intercourse. This, of course, will not work if you are trying to get pregnant. There is also desensitization therapy available, similar to allergy shots. This is not done in very many centers and is quite expensive.

How do you stop post nasal drip?

Antihistamines such as Allergy medications (benadryl, zyrtec, cleratine, allegra, etc) do help temporarily by shutting down the mucus production.

I've had post nasal drip for over 5 years now, it makes you cough in the mornings and sometimes gets pretty uncomfortable. I use antihistamines however I pretty much would have to use it all the time lol

so I found that sinus flush have been working for me.

You go to Amazon, or to local pharmacy (cvs, wallgreens, even walmart) and you buy either nasal irrigator or what I found works better nasal syringe.

You fill it with warm water, and slowly squeeze the water in one of your nostrils, (make sure it doesn't leak from the same nostril).

Squeeze the water slowly, you will feel as the water fills all your sinus cavities and after a couple seconds as you squeeze starts dripping from the other nostril -that's what you want because it means it reached all the sinuses and now flushes all the bacteria and mucus out.

Now there is that moment when the water goes up your nose to the sinuses, that moment sucks cuz always gives me a headache (it's the same feeling if water gets up your nose in the pool or lake), but when you get past that its ok (you can adjust your head tilt, I found that it depends on your head position).

Make sure the water comes out thru the other nostril....

As much as the allergy pills help you temporarily, you can use it as a adition to those.

I have been using it once a day or once every few days for about 5 minutes from one nostril to another, and so far don't have to take allergy pills at all, my sinus feels very clear and less dripy, no cough in the mornings either.

It didn't eliminate completely the nasal drip but reduced it so I don't notice that and no flem or the bacteria in there anymore cuz they all com out with the water....

So far it works well :)

If you are allergic to codeine would you be allergic to Imodium?

No. They have similar effects on the bowel but work in very different ways and and are not chemically related. You may be allergic to both but this would be a coincidence rather than a causal relationship.

Unfortunately, I am allergic to Codeine, and am unable to take: Imodium, Morphine, Vicodin, Oxycodone, or anything similar. Imodium makes everything 100 times worse: the diarrhea, stomach cramps, then add vomiting. The only thing I can take for pain is Demerol, because it is 100% synthetic, so be careful with

Imodium even though it's over the counter. I assume everyone is different.

Can an Allergy cause red itchy hot swollen ears?

I do not know about causing swollen ears, but red ears and cheeks could potentially mean food alergy, intolerance, or a sensitivity to something. Check milk/dairy and phenol for the problem with the red ears.

-rcc Note I once saw a guy eat shell fish and his ears get puffy looking and red. My ears experience phonophobia, redness, vertigo, and dryness associated with neurological affect from 'allegies' affect on my immune system. For sure allergies can affect the ears. The ears are a good gauge to immune and neurological issues. Why? Because they're very sensitive to the environment and connected to what's going on inside and out in many different ways.

Is Hoisin sauce gluten free?

Your dog allergies treatable?

Can your throat close if you are allergic to a cat?

Yes, depending upon the severity of the reaction you can have any number of irritating symptoms, including your throat closing. This is called anaphylaxic shock. It is potentially life threatening if not treated. People with known problems of anaphylaxtic shock usually carry an emergency treatment called an EpiPen (epinephrine).

If you, or someone with you, has an anaphylaxic reaction to something, call 911. Use the EpiPen if one is available. Even if an EpiPen is used and symptoms appear to be under control, it is imperative that the person visit the hospital to ensure there isn't a secondary reaction.

If you have suspicions or concerns about anaphylaxic shock you should talk it over with your doctor to ensure you are properly educated and have the appropriate preventative steps or medications in place as well as an EpiPen if one is indicated.

If you have codeine allergies will you have Oxycontin allergies?

It's technically possible for someone to exhibit an allergic response (hives, difficulty breathing) to codeine, but have no problem taking oxycodone. That said, the odds are probably against it, and as such should only be attempted at the discretion of a trained medical professional (with OTC antihistamines on-hand, just in case). Molecularly speaking, codeine and oxycodone are very similar. Codeine lacks the hydroxy group at the 14- position, and has a 7-8 double bond. Also, the 6- position of codeine contains an alcohol group instead of a carbonyl.

What medications are good to combat pet allergies?

That's such a vague question...It depends on your pet of course. A cat will need different meds than a dog and a bird will need different meds than a cat. The easiest thing to do is talk to a vet before you get a pet so they can tell you what meds you are going to need. If you don't know, or don't want to talk to, a vet then you can just look around online at a few different websites. There are multiple sites out there that specialize in the health of pets/pet medication.

How does wheat allergy affect a person?

Wheat allergy, sometimes referred to as gluten intolerance, can manifest a wide variety of symptoms. Depending on the individual, the following symptoms may be present:

  • Extreme fatigue
  • Weight gain (or weight loss)
  • Abdominal pain
  • Bloating
  • Cramping
  • Constipation
  • Hashimoto's Thyroiditis (autoimmune thyroiditis)
  • Diarrhea
  • Alternating Constipation and Diarrhea
  • Irritable bowel syndrome
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Dermatitis herpetiformis
  • Eczema
  • Lupus
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Psoriasis
  • Asthma
  • Fibromylagia

Gluten, a protein component of wheat and several other grains including barley and rye, is the cause of the allergic response that certain people have to wheat. Wheat allergy should not be confused with the much more serious condition known as Celiac Disease. With Celiac disease, damage to the digestive system can occur, causing the individual to suffer from various nutritional deficiencies brought on by their inability to assimilate or absorb important nutrients from the food they consume. With wheat allergy, some irritation or damage to the lining of the stomach and/or small intestine may also occur, but generally far less so than with Celiac Disease.

However, owing to the rather long list of possible issues brought on by an allergy to wheat, if you suspect you have this allergy it is important to consult with your doctor and be tested in order to determine if you do. People who have wheat allergy and switch to a wheat (gluten-free) diet usually report feeling much healthier overall, generally with a noticeable increase in their energy levels.

How is malt flavoring made?

Malt flavoring is an extract, most commonly from the grain barley, but may be made from other grains. It is made by germinating the barley grains by soaking them in water, then heating them to stop the germination so the plant doesn't grow.

The germination causes the starch in the grains to turn to sugar, with the result being an extract that has many uses.

Malt is used in the brewing of beer as a food for the yeast, as well as a flavoring that is found in many foods.

It contains gluten, which is a complex of proteins found in the grain, so it's not safe for people with Celiac disease or other gluten sensitivity.

Can you ever grow out of an allergy?

Yes. Many people with allergies such as animals or dust grow out of their allergies once they get older. Growing out of food/medication allergies is less common, but occasionally it does happen.

If you are allergic to sulfa would you be allergic to Tamiflu?

Many people can unless they have a severe sulfa drug allergy. Allergic reactions to the flu vaccines are very rare.

The amount of antibacterial agents left in flu vaccines from their being treated to prevent bacterial growth are only traces. Although, it is best to check with your doctor before getting a flu vaccination if you have a severe allergy to sulfonamides.

Some types of vaccines may be better than others for you. See the ingredient lists below. After speaking with your allergist or physician, if you still have any concerns, the clinician who will be giving you the injection can tell you if there is any potential problem from the vaccine they will be using, and they will not give it if there is any issue. You may want to call around after speaking to your doctor to find a location that has the brands of vaccines that do not contain sulfonamides. If you are getting the vaccination from your family doctor, just be sure to remind them of your allergy before they give it and they can monitor your reaction to the medication for a period after the vaccination to be sure there will be no need for treatment of a reaction. If you have a severe allergic reaction to sulfa drugs, then you should not take those vaccines containing sulfonamides.

The sulfonamide antibiotics used in the preparation of the flu vaccines are typically neomycin sulfate, gentamicin sulfate, and polymyxin. Two of the vaccines are available without these drugs: Fluzone and Flulaval.

The ingredients of each type of flu vaccine currently available in the US for the 2012 - 2013 flu season are:

Flulaval:

Thimerosal, α-tocopheryl hydrogen succinate, polysorbate 80, formaldehyde, sodium deoxycholate, ovalbumin

Fluzone: Standard, High-Dose, & Intradermal:

Formaldehyde, octylphenol ethoxylate (Triton X-100), sodium phosphate, gelatin (standard formulation only), thimerosal (multi-dose vial only) , egg protein

Afluria:

Beta-propiolactone, thimerosol (multi-dose vials only), monobasic sodium phosphate, dibasic sodium phosphate, monobasic potassium phosphate, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, sodium taurodeoxycholate, neomycin sulfate, polymyxin B, egg protein

Fluarix:

Sodium deoxycholate, formaldehyde, octoxynol-10 (Triton X-100), α-tocopheryl hydrogen succinate, polysorbate 80 (Tween 80), hydrocortisone, gentamicin sulfate, ovalbumin

Fluvirin:

Nonylphenol ethoxylate, thimerosal (multidose vial-trace only in prefilled syringe), polymyxin, neomycin, beta-propiolactone, egg proteins

FluMist:

Ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), monosodium glutamate, hydrolyzed porcine gelatin, arginine, sucrose, dibasic potassium phosphate, monobasic potassium phosphate, gentamicin sulfate, egg protein

See the related question below about flu vaccines and egg allergies.

Can allergic reactions cause cancer?

Pollen do not cause cancer normally. Pollen causes acute rhinitis or runny nose and bronchial asthma. But then you can always find the pollen which can cause or at least predisposes the cancer. Specially in tropical rain forests. So every thing is possible in biology.
