The Goths in ancient history were a group of tribes including the Ostrogoths, Visigoths, Lombards, and Vandals. They were of Germanic origin and for the most part probably practiced variations of the Pagan religions of Northern Europe. Yes; they can be lavish. They put flowers on their gurus, too.

Contrary to popular belief, God delights in helping those who CANNOT help themselves. The phrase "God helps those who help themselves" is from Aesop's fables, not the Bible.
