What is the spirit of a living person that departs from the body after death to take its place in the kingdom of the Dead?

In ancient Egypt, humans had more than one soul. The Ren was the part of the soul which came into existence when a person was named after birth. As long as the name was remembered, written, and spoken, this part of the soul continues to live. This is why Egyptians were careful to protect their names, and why unpopular rulers (Hatshepsut, Akhenaten, and others) had their names chiseled away from where they had once stood. The Ba is the part of the soul that is the essence of someones personality. It is the part that lives on and takes advantage of the funerary gifts - food, utensils, etc. that are given at the burial This part of the soul becomes corporeal after death, and so can make physical use of funerary gifts. The Ba would return to the deceased body to reside and rest, which was why preservation was so important. At death, Egyptians took with them the ib, or heart. It was here that emotion, reason, thought, will, etc. This was the most important part of the soul and was weighed at death. If heavy with sin, the heart was eaten by the crocodile Goddess of divine retribution, Ammit, and the deceased would not be allowed to enter the afterlife, instead being condemned to wander forever. The Sheut was the shadow. Since a shadow cannot exist independently and all things cast shadows, the Sheut was a reflection of who the person was. Statues were sometimes called a person's shadow. The Ka is the life force. When this leaves the body, it dies. Infants received the breath of a god at birth, and it was this that gave them life. The Ka could be sustained through food and drink, although it was the essence, not the physical form, that was consumed. The Akh is most easily described as a ghost. The understanding and descriptions of the Akh varied through the different periods of Egypt's history. For some, the Ka and Ba combined to form the Akh. For other beliefs, the Ka became the Akh. This Akh was the focus of worship and formed the deceased individual who had to be sustained, else they risk a second death.

How can you get into the Underworld?

In Greek mythology, the guarenteed way to get into Underworld is to die, providing the brurial rites are respected. However, various figures have entered the underworld alive. The locations of the entrance are various and always uncertain. Charon, the ferryman, who ferries the souls of the dead to the underworld, crosses the river Archeron which can be located near the village of Glyki. The souls of the dead wait at the gates of Underworld with coins either over their eyes or beneath their tongue (a traditional burial rite in ancient Greece). The coins are to pay Charon for the service. Only the dead are permitted to cross, so Psyche used this method to get into Underworld. To get passed Cerberus (Hades' three-headed guard dog), she was instructed to feed him a kind of cake.

Orpheus instead charmed Charon to take him to Hades' palace with the music he played on his lyre and by singing. This also calmed Cerburus who let him pass. Heracles found an extrance near Sparta and threated Charon. He then fought and over-powered Cerberus.

Odysseus, at the advice of Circe, travels by ship into Underworld. He sails to the end of the world then makes a sacrifice of a goat, feeding the blood to a prophet who instructs him from there.

Why did the Romans worship?

Apollo was a Greek god who was adopted by the Romans. The process started with the acquisition of the Sibylline Books of the oracles of Cumae by Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, the last king of Rome who ruled in the 6th century BC. The Sibylline were Greek oracles who lived in several Greek cities, including Cumae, a Greek city south of Rome, near Naples. The Romans created two priests dedicated to this guariging and interpreting these books, the duumviri sacris faciundis. Later this priesthood was increased to ten (decemviri sacris faciundis) and then to fifteen (quindecimviri sacris faciundis). Apollo was an oracular god; that is, the god of the oracles. Thus the Romans adopted Apollo.

The Romans also adopted Asclepius, the son of Apollo and the divinity who mediated medicine and healing, which were associated with Apollo.

In Hellenistic times, especially during the 3rd century BC, Apollo became identified among Greeks with Helios, Titan god of the sun, as Apollo Helios (Helios means sun in Greek). Apollo Sol (Sun) appeared in Roman literature in the in the third century AD. Constantine the Great (ruled 306-337) worshipped Apollo Sol and wanted the citizens of the empire to worship him.

What does the pantheist worldview think about sexuality?

Atheism is not a unified system of belief and as such the views on sexuality vary from atheist to atheist. Most atheists would say they believe in Evolution and so humans have evolved with sexuality for reproduction, the pleasure being a side effect to make the urge to seek out a mate desirable. As for ethics in sexuality these vary. But the individual thoughts about everything else regarding sex (sex without commitment, homosexuality, abortion) vary.

AnswerThere is no general "atheistic" view on sexuality. The only "given" that can be said about atheists and their general view of sexuality is that it is not influenced by religious rules, religious doctrines or religious dogma.

What year did Joshua cross the Jordan?

Approximately 1300 BC

Answer:

According to traditional chronology, it was in 1272 BCE.

Joshua had been Moses' right-hand man since his youth (Numbers 11:28), and his chief disciple; and was constantly found in the tent of Torah where Moses taught (Exodus 33:11), so as not to miss a single word of Moses' teaching. He could be trusted to reach correct decisions (Numbers ch.13-14); and was successful in battle too (Exodus ch.17).
As Moses approached the time when he would have to hand over the helm of leadership, Joshua turned out to be the best choice to carry on, and God named him as Moses' successor (Numbers ch.27). It was Joshua who led the Israelites into Canaan (Joshua ch.1).

What are some important places in christianity?

Mt. Carmel Mt. Carmel Vatican City
This is really tough to answer. In one sense you have to remember that protestants don't have "holy places." God is everywhere so you can worship him equally everywhere.

But in another sense, some places are powerful reminders of Jesus. In that way, Jerusalem is very important to Christianity.
