Is Lexapro a Mao inhibitor?

No - Lamotrigine (Brand name Lamictal) is in a class of mood stabilizers. It's also used for epilepsy treatment. It has no MAO inhibitor effect. Lamotrigine has been shown to be a reversible inhibitor of MAO-A (Ki=15 uM) and MAO-B (Ki = 18 uM). MAO inhibition is possible at doses of 100-200mg/day and this could be a mechanism for the serotonin increases seen with lamotrigine treatment. The binding to the enzyme seems to be very reversible, that is, other MAO substrates can readily displace it. To the best of my knowledge, it lacks any clinically relevant interactions that are normally seen with MAOIs.

Can you mix elavil and Effexor together?

You should be getting interactions information whenever you pick up your prescriptions. Check with the pharmacist, or with your doctor(s). Do not ever mix prescription drugs without consultation with your doctor and then also, a full face-to-face discussion with the dispensing pharmacist. Try to stick to one doctor and one pharmacist. Do not stop taking prescribed medications suddenly and always ensure your doctor is aware of everything you are taking:- prescriptions; over-the-counter products; vitamins; herbs; minerals and street drugs. Do not take other people's medication. Look after yourself.

Can you take Wellbutrin with Naproxen?

What is the best way to withdraw from Lexapro without any side effects?

I did this once. Say you are taking 10mg of Lexapro daily. Do a week first of 10mg one day, 5mg the next, 10 mg, 5, 10, 5, etc. Then, do a week of taking all 5mg. Then, do a week of taking 5mg, 0, 5, 0, 5, etc. Then you will likely be ok being off it!

I had really bad side effects during the 0-5-0-5 week. To make it easier, I added another week of 0-0-5-0-0-5. That helped me! To get 5mg, either get a pill-splitter or use a knife and cut them in half.

Good luck and take your time! :-)

How long can you be on Wellbutrin before it stops working?

Generally, medications don't stop working. Sometimes the situation changes, and the medication is no longer the best option for treatment, and sometimes something as simple as a higher dose is necessary. I don't know what you consider to be not working, or how long you've been on the medication. Many people take wellbutrin for long periods of time (several years or more). If you feel your dose of wellbutrin is no longer effective, talk to your prescriber. The maximum daily dose is 450mg, anything higher than that can significantly increase your risk of seizures and other adverse effects, and has not been shown to be any more effective than the normal therapeutic doses. Good luck!!

Will fluoxetine or Prozac cause a positive test for amphetamines?

The truth is, because of Fluoxetines composition, it very well easily can test positive on a urin test. Im a nurse at the mayo clinic in Jacksonville, i have addministered many a drug test and had much reasearh on the topic. The Fluoxetine/Prozac is a Fluoxetine (Prozac) is Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI). Just a simple light anti-depressant. Not an amphetamine like it makes people false positive for.

Can you take Prozac and adderall together?

Prozac and Adderall will most likely have few interactive side-effects. Prozac is an SSRI, and acts to allow the brain more time to pick up and consume serotonin, the chemical believed to be responsible for regulation of emotion and a variety of other functions. There is a different TYPE of anti-depressant used less frequently known as an MAOI which acts in a very different way, and an MAOI is a known contraindication of Adderall patients, but Prozac is not. Adderall, which is a mixture of Levo and Dextro-amphetamine salts, acts primarily by increasing levels of dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. Adderall doesincrease extracellular levels of serotonin in the brain, although the brain acts to maintain balance (homeostasis) and modifies chemical levels based on other factors. In closing, Prozac and Adderall (both XR and other racemic mixtures of Levo+Dextroamphetamine) should and historically have not had any notable interactions.

Can you take provigil with fluoxetine?

Firstly, a few questions because to be safe you need to think about this abit more.

Why do you want to take the 2 together? Provigil (generic:Modafinil) can be anxiolytic, is this why you're taking it with an antidepressant? or is it for recreational purposes? (if you are I'd get something better)

Anyways, your answer.

Yes. They both work on Neurotransmitter (NT) systems, but since they work on different systems there's no reason why you can't take them together. Although, as a Pharmacologist, I dislike recommending cocktails. NT's are complex things, and there interactions aren't to be underestimated.

SSRI's take 2+ weeks to take effect (I assume you're taking them at the moment, and Provigil will be started soon) Provigil is a few days. So if you start feeling side effect or showing counter indications, stop taking the Provigil.

As with everything in pharmacology, doasage is the key. Be careful, act sensibly, and if you're in doubt go to a doctor.

Can Lamictal Prozac or lisinopril cause a false-positive screening for benzodiazepines?

No; absolutely not. Every single one of those medications listed are not only members of different chemical classes, but COMPLETELY structurally unrelated. Their metabolites will never be similar.

That said, Lisinopril is not even metabolized by the body. It is excreted through the urine completely unchanged.

It's still safe to list all current prescriptions prior to screenings and provide Rx numbers to avoid confusion. If you don't have a valid prescription for Benzodiazepines, I would recommend getting one through a pysch or a sympathetic internal medicine doctor. Get a small amount. It's too tempting to take more than prescribed and withdrawl is awful. But at least that way you have a valid prescription for a controlled drug.

How long does Lexapro stay in your system after you stop taking it?

I took Lexapro for quite sometime. I'm off of it now and I'm losing lots of weight, but I'm sure it due to stress. Not a good method. Anti-Depressants should reduce snacking. Alot of snacking is from stress, nervousness, and a HUGE comfort zone...
