Then you don't sign a Ranger contract. You just sign a contract for regular old 11B. Signing a Ranger contract doesn't send you to Ranger School - you need to be E4 or higher in order to do that - you go through the two week Ranger Indoctrination Program (now called something else, but I don't remember what), and, if you pass, you have the possibility of being assigned to a Ranger Battalion. In order to advance to Sergeant in a Ranger Battalion, you must first complete Ranger School and get tabbed out. In regular Army line units, Ranger School isn't a requirement, but it is a major advantage towards career advancement.

Typical advancement of a commissioned officer to Captain can come in four to five years. This will also be career field dependent, as a career field with a higher turnover rate (such as most combat arms) will see faster advancements in rank promotions than a career field with a lower turnover rate.

Not everyone in 75th Ranger Regiment is actually a Ranger. They have cooks, mechanics, and the same support personnel any other unit would have. So, you could get into the 75th Ranger Regiment that way.

If you actually want to be a Ranger, there's a couple different ways to go.

Personnel just entering the Army would have to go in under a RIP (Ranger Indoctrination Programme) contract, which would limit the MOS choices available to them. 11B (infantry) is the most common, but there'll also be medics, communications personnel, etc. After your Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training (or One Station Unit Training for infantry), you would first go to jump school, then to RIP. If you pass RIP, you can be assigned to a Ranger battalion. If not, you'll be sent to some line unit.

If you're already a noncommissioned officer or commissioned officer, and want to go to a line company of a Ranger battalion in a leadership position, you will first need to complete Ranger school, which is a requirement for combat leaders in the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Lack of sleep

Mechanic courses and medical courses as well as cooking classes are suited to hands on training. These are all things that cannot be taught by lectures or online.

I think in order to be eligible for Combat infantryman Badge you would have to have been in combat and your immediate commanding officer would have to request that you receive the CIB. Not real sure but you can find out a lot on Google... There is also an Infantrymans Badge.

36 Series is financial management, and communications is now 25 Series.. prior to the reorganization which occurred from 2001 - 2004, commo was 31 Series. So this seems to me to indicate that you were in before the Combat Action Badge was established in May of 2005, and could only be backdated to actions which occurred following the September 11th attacks. So, if this is the case, you're not authorized to wear it.

If you're in currently, then perhaps they've reorganized the MOS structure again since my time... in which case, the MOS is eligible to wear it, but you could only wear it if you were actually awarded it... the basic criteria for a CAB is enemy contact... simply deploying to a combat zone doesn't qualify you for it.
