Are bananas ok to eat if your on a diet?

Bananas are full of potassium and, unfortunately, carbohydrates. Carbs are not good for losing weight but berries, such as blueberries, strawberries and raspberries are much lower in carbs. They are a better choice for weight loss.

PS if you are thinking about getting a cat or dog please get one from your local pound

How much potassium is in a medium banana?

A medium banana has about 422 mg of potassium.

A banana is a pretty good source of potassium. However it is not sensational. It has about the same potassium content per calorie as a potato.

While it's true that the average potato has roughly as much potassium as a banana, boiling/mashing potatoes will remove a large portion of that potassium. So homemade mashed potatoes aren't as good of a source as, say, a baked potato is.

Are banana spiders venomous?

"NO, I believe that the Black Widow is still the most dangerous"

Incorrect, the banana spider, also known as the Brazilian wandering spider, is THE most deadly spider in the world. though the black widows venom is more toxic then rattlesnake venom, 0.006mg of banana spider venom WILL kil a 20g mouse. besides the funnel web spider kills more people and is more aggresive then the black widow.

How many Bananas are too many to eat?

Of course you can eat as many as you want. But keep in mind that as fruit they are the denser fruits and are considered 'solid' food.

When thinking of fruit as healthy for the body, generally it is the water dense fruits like watermelons, cantalopes, even strawberries that benefit the flow of the body because of their water content. That keeps the body systems, primarily the stomach related areas, moving along very nicely.

But health wise one-banana-a-day is sufficient to the body, in that one-a-day provides what is needed to strengthen the heart muscle. And in that way bananas, because of their potassium, are healthy for the body.

But don't get in the mind set that they are so good for the heart that you eat them all them time. Because for the rest of the body they are too dense of a food and don't contribute to the body beyond the needed potassium for the heart - which equals one banana a day. Otherwise you may be surprised to discover yourself putting on weight when you think you are eating a healthy food and so how can that happen?

Fruit acts as an eliminator to the body and is a very natural way of the body's function in eliminating it's toxins. But, again, that refers to fruits that are water dense, not just solid food - like bananas.

In answer to your question, and I am someone who is medically knowledgeable, eat one a day. Like slicing a banana on your cereal in the morning or having one as a snack during the day - and that will support your body very well.

What do banana peels have in theem?

Bananas are among the most widely consumed fruits on the planet and, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Americans' favorite fresh fruit. The curvy yellow fruits are high in "potassium and pectin, a form of fiber," said Laura Flores, a San Diego-based nutritionist. They can also be a good way to get magnesium and vitamins C and B6. "Bananas are high in antioxidants, which can provide protection from free radicals, which we come into contact with every day, from the sunlight to the lotion you put on your skin," Flores added.

There's wide variety of health benefits associated with the fruit. "Bananas are known to reduce swelling, protect against developing type-2 diabetes, aid in weight loss, strengthen the nervous system and help with production of white blood cells, all due to the high level of vitamin B6 that bananas contain,"

It is wrong so SCRATCH THAT ANSWER. Bananas ripen faster in a warmer temperature. I have just completed a science fair project in bananas. A banana emits a gas called ethylene and if you have not realized it when a banana is in the sun it ripens faster causing the decomposition stage to move quicker. The correct question to this answer is "Will a banana last longer in warmer temperatures or in cooler temperatures"? The answer to that question is above,But if you would like to ripen your bananas quickly simply leave them in a warm temperatured place or a place giving direct sunlight.

Is banana good to eat at night?

well, yes! anything that has sugar is bad for at night. This is because your metabolism is low and it cant break down the sugars fast enough. It also provides a lot of energy, which makes you not want to sleep.

How does the banana peel decompose?

You can, but the two ends don't always grind up very well. And stringey things like banana peels and celery will tend to cause it to seize up. I would recommend using them in your garden for compost. They are supposed to be really good for tomato and rose plants. It has been not recommended, but I myself have cut 'em up and experimented with it, and it seems to work just find. I do know that egg shells and ice, either by themselves or together, sharpen the blades of a garbage disposal quite well, and it helps to do it daily depending on how much you use the garbage disposal.

How many bunches of bananas to a tree?

Bananas don't come in bunches. They come in hands. Each individual banana is called a finger.

I've seen hands with 9 fingers and I've seen them with less. I think the average is about 5, which would make sense considering they are called hands.

But there is no exact answer to your question.

Does banana contain fat and starch?

Bananas are a good source of dietary starch. Different types of bananas have different percentages of starch content.

As bananas ripen the starch changes to dextrin and glucose.

Cooking bananas (plantains) are about 25% starch, which is much more starch that 'eating' bananas have, which can be in the range of 5% to 6% of the edible part of the fruit.

For more information, see Related links below this box.

Do bananas ripen faster intact in a bunch or separated?

They emit ethylene gas which signals the other bananas to ripen. When they're separated they get less exposure. If instead you want to make them ripen more quickly, put them in a plastic bag together, or with a banana that's already ripe.

Can you get sick from eating bad bananas?

Green bananas are safe to eat. They contain resistant starch which is helpful for people controlling their blood sugar, because resistant starch has less effect on blood glucose levels. The way to eat them is to cook them. Slice them or cut them like fries and fry them in butter until browned.

Green Bananas are very good for health, even better than the yellow ones, some studies say.The incidence of Irritable bowel diseases/cancers is lower in places where people consume more green bananas than yellow.

Can eating bananas make you fat?

Yes, if you eat too many. 3 - 4 small bananas are very good for especially woman of all ages because it is loaded with potassium and it is said that potassium can help calm down PMS, potassium is also said to help with period pains.

Not one food is fattening, even a Big Mac is not fattening if it is a once in a while treat and you eat healthily the rest of the time. (Always supposing you think a Big Mac is a treat.)

It's true that bananas are low in water compared to other fruits. That means there's more carbohydrate (and therefore more calories) per bite compared to say a plum. Water has no calories, so generally, the higher a fruit's water content, the lower the calories per serving. Here's one way to think about how "watery" a fruit or veggie is: consider what it looks like dried, when most of the water's been removed. Dried grapes turn into tiny raisins, and sun-dried tomatoes are transformed into shriveled little curls. But high-starch, low water foods like beans, peas, potatoes and bananas look relatively the same when dehydrated.

Is banana tasty?

yes bananas are nice but only if you like bananas if you don't like bananas then no bananas arn't nice...

It depends if your not nice to bananas then they wont be nice to you its common sense!!!

hellz yea im goin out with a banana and hes a good lover!!! =p

bananas!

Can you put bananas in plastic bags to preserve them?

No, they do not, one of the best way to preserve the bananas (keep them yummier for longest!) is to keep them in a cool, dark cupboard, because the heat dries them out and makes them go brown and spotty, so if you want a nice, fresh banana, put it in a dark, cool cupboard!! I hope this idea helps your bananas stay healthy!!!!

How do you keep bananas from spoiling so fast?

Storing bananas in the refrigerator will only accelerate the browning reaction. Like most tropical fruits, bananas prefer warm weather. Refrigerator temperatures cause the same cell breakdown that old age does. In the trade this is known as chill injury. Keep bananas out of the fridge until they're good and ripe, and then refrigerate them. The cold keeps them from ripening further. Ideally bananas prefer about 55 degrees F. But unless you've got a wine cellar, room temperature is your best option.

keep in the sun I know it sounds kind of wierd or the oposite of what you should do but it works but whatever you do don't put them in the fridge
