Rising sea levels eat away at the sand by creating alternate tidal patterns. 10. Subsidence of the coast due to over pumping of ground water causes the seas to extend further in land. 11. Chemical erosion deteriates coastal land utilizing salt water and oxygen to destroy rock material that comes in contact with sea water. 12. Tourism causes compaction of tidal sands and a further retreat of the beach allowing waves to get inland further. 13. Failed attempts at controlling beach erosion in the past can actually cause the problem to get worse; such as causing the waves to rush back out to see faster than before taking more sediment with them. 14. Deepening and widening of river channels cause deposition of sand in the channel rather than on coastal lands.
