The suspense of Among The Hidden is that Luke risks a few visits to a Baron(rich people)'s house,where he meets another 3rd(forbidden)child,Jen.(Third children weren't supposed to exist).Also,Luke needed to always be very careful,watching out for the terrorizing Population Police,which where officers who received $$$ as a "thanks"for killing 3rds.At the end there is suspense too when Luke gets a FAKE ID card from Jen's dad.Because of the ID CARD, he could now go out,pretend to NOT be a 3rd child.(His new identity was Lee Grant's,a Baron 1st child who had died.Lee's parents donated Lee's ID so Jen's dad got it for him)(ID CARDS proved you were allowed to exist,families could only have 2 kids).
Also,there is suspense when Jen goes to a rally to confront the Government,who had passed the Population Law,which said to kill all 3rds.Jen doesn't come back and Luke doesn't see her for a long time so he gets worried.(BTW,Luke did not see Jen again because she was killed along with the other 3rds that had come to the rally w/her,by Population Police --- :(----)

This guy called Mo can read people/things out of books. Before he knew his talent he accidently read his wife into a book called 'inkheart' for capricorn, basta (the baddies!!) and dustfinger the fire-eater. One night dustfinger appears at Mo's and Meggie's (Mo's daughter) door. They need to go and fight capricorn. Capricorn wants mo to read money out of books for him so he does. Meggie discovers she too can read books in a 'magical' way. In the end Capricorn dies and Dustfinger still is in need of getting back into the book of 'Inkheart'.

He was able through spirit assistance to answer all the questions he was asking in his first book.
