What causes a 6 year old Boston Bull terrier to uninate in the house frequently all of a sudden?

If your Boston Terrier is a boy he maybe marking his territory for no definitive reason. If there has been loss or a removal of a another family member or pet this could be a cry for a new companion animal. If you physically punish your dog it will continue to do it. Always use small reward treats for good behavior. Make sure to clean the area with a disinfectant. There are sprays that can be unpleasant for your dog to smell on the area after it had been cleaned first. Vets have hormone defusers that plug in the wall like a the ones that make your house smell good. These defusers can not be smelled by humans. They only emit a hormone in the home that calms the dog. I don't know why it works but it is amazing. Good luck with your dog and always treat them as a very important member of your family.

Are Boston terriers good for people with allergies?

A Boston Terrier's short coat, which can be black and white, brown and white, or brindle and white, sheds very little and requires minimal grooming. Infrequent baths, with a towel rubdown in between, is all that is needed for these dogs. They are sometimes considered "hypoallergenic" and are well tolerated by people with allergies. A solid white coat in a Boston Terrier usually indicates genetic weakness.

Do boston terrier pups need their ears clipped?

No, unless you don't want them to have huge ears, because they almost ALWAYS stand up straight and they are ALWAYS huge, like bat ears. Take it from someone who has a 1 1/2 year old Boston Terrier. He has HUGE ears. Really really big ears. I wouldn't recommand doing that though.

Can calf raises improve your speed?

The main function of the calves (gastronemius and soleus) are plantar flexion of the foot. Seeing as how plantar flexion is involved in walking and to an extent in running, in theory it should help improve speed. I wouldn't go as far to say it's going to take a few tenths of a second off your 100meter dash, but it would surely go a long way towards strength the joint around the ankle and making it more sustainable to high impact sprinting. The hamstrings are the muscles that are going to make the biggest difference when it comes to speed improvement.

What are the main health concerns for a Boston Terrier?

Health concerns are present in all breeds, but some are breed specific.

Boston Terriers are particularly known to have the risk of developing:

  • cataracts
  • luxating patellas (knee dislocation)
  • deafness (mostly in old age)
  • heart murmur (not common but possible)
  • Mastocytoma (cancerous tumours. All living animals are prone to cancer)
  • Curvature of the back, resulting in rear leg problems (usually operable by a vet)

Due to their short snout, like all short-snouted dogs, Boston Terriers cannot tolerate excessive heat nor excessive cold. So they need to be kept cool in warm months with cold water always available to them, and kept warm in cold months.
And, again like all short-snouted dogs, the Boston Terrier can get blocked sinuses, leading to excessive tear discharge, which is treatable with droplet medication.
