Yes I think so. It must seem so unfair that he is happy after what he has done. Just be glad you're out of that abusive relationship which would have destroyed you in time and have a real chance to find true love. It means he wants to check up on you and make sure you are okay. Maybe there is guilt going on in his head and he needs to feel closure by knowing you're not so depressed that you will kill yourself. He is tapering off the relationship, beginning the withdrawals of contact. Any communication will happen less and less with more time in between after a break up.

The simple answer is that "there are other fish in the sea." Although it may seem like this person is the only one for you and you will always be attracted to them in everyway possible, before you know it you will completely forget about them and find someone else who is very similar.
