Most of the time you can but it matters by if they like another person and want you out of there life. I had a boyfriend who liked other girls and I liked other guys but we never told each other that so when I broke up with him I ended up wit another guy and he was mad so he asked out another girl. So after that one day the guy that I just started to date let me off easy and said he thinks he needs some time. So then about ten minutes later my ex calls and asked me to call his girlfriend and see if she called him. I believe people should be happy and since you were both in love 23 years ago and that love has not gone away (why did it?) then it's unfair of both of you having an affair on your spouses and not coming clean. I'm sorry to say there isn't much you can do. He's at fault no matter if you gave him any reasons for this behavior (not accusing you.) He's a coward and immature because it's not a good idea to listen to gossip from others about your mate. If he had any problems with you he should be mature enough to discuss them with you.
